CycleFolsom is having a ride this Saturday(rain cancels) starting at 08:00 at Karen's Bakery in Folsom. We have two ride options. One route is out to Lincoln and back, approx 45-50 miles and 3K feet of climbing. The second route will ride the American River Bike Trail.

All are welcome.

Joel, if you haven't ridden with these guys before, you should. Nice group. I rode with them a couple of years ago around the mountain at Berryessa and had a good time.

Unfortunately, I'm in training Saturday.

I'm trying to decide what to do.

Joel - are you definitely riding the Karen's ride? I'm inclined to do a wheelmen ride since I haven't ridden with them since joining, but I'd rather meet up and ride with people I know over doing the wheelmen gig alone.

You know, I'd be very happy just do a ride without either the Wheelmen or the Karen's Bakery ride. I'd also prefer to leave a little later after it's had time to warm up.

Have an idea for a route?

I actually like the 8 AM start time, but I'd be OK with 9 at the latest.

There are some hills we can ride up toward EDH. But I don't have anything in mind for the ride. 9am sounds good.

Actually, I do have an idea for a route. I think it's time for Cothrin Ranch Rd again. I'll draw up a cue sheet for review later on tonight.

Maybe I should ask first. How does 5000 or so feet of climbing grab you? I think it'll be 65 or 70 miles leaving from my house. I can cut some of that climbing out too, though it adds distance instead.

Sounds painful. Let's do it.

edit: Not to complicate things, but do you think we'll be done by 3? If we're running late will there be any bailouts? I need to meet with someone at 5 on a side-project of mine.

Man..less and less time to ride lately :(

See the OP for the route and time.

The alternative is to start from the school at Francisco Blvd. Will end up being about 40 miles and 3500' of climbing. You can still bail out at South Shingle Springs Rd and cut about 5 miles and 1000' off.

I'm having issues seeing the map. Something related to my work connection likely. I'll check it tonight.

Thanks for the earlier start time. Sorry to be a PITA ;)

There's one spot where there isn't a road on the map that actually exists. It looks on that map like we're going singletrack. We're not.

I like singletrack anyway :p

That might not be a bad idea anyway. The weather is looking worse for Sunday and I ought to keep Saturday's ride short enough that I can be home by noon so that my wife can get a ride in.

The best laid plans....

Google Jackson Elementary School, El Dorado, CA. Should pop up at the NE corner of El Dorado Hills Blvd. and Francisco Blvd. in El Dorado Hills. This is a 2.5 - 3 hour ride

I'm out for sure. Sorry guys! I was out there yesterday for a TT for Revolutions and it ended up being 80 miles r/t. Can't justify the carbon to ride carbon and I'm not up for 120 miles like last time... ::)

If I am extremely motivated tomorrow AM (90% unlikely) I could take the Rail of Light... If I'm not there, have fun.

JoelS
02-27-09, 01:06 PM
You could take the rail up to Mather, ride to my place, and then I'll drive. I'm about a mile from the station.

Or I can pick you up somewhere. I'll be going Hwy. 50 from west sac to EDH and up. Anywhere along there is good. I can also come up 5 to 50 and get you in Old Town where we met for Amgen.

I might show up. I have to work a few hours tomorrow. Maybe I'll join you guys instead of riding in. A big maybe right now - but I need to get some hills in. 35 miles, so done before/around noon?

Actually, it's more like 39 miles, but yeah, done around noon.

My wife wants to run 10 miles tomorrow AM. This means me on my mtn bike toting 100 lbs of kids in a Burley. Exactly the same workout as what you guys are doing... :p
