Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Eau de Hell Week anyone?

Are you thinking about giving Eau de Hell week another shot?
That's April 11th thru the 17th, if one stays for the whole thing. It's a nice drive and ferry ride getting up there, and I already have a room reserved again in Chemainus, BC.
Since I live in the Seattle area, I thought I'd at least go up there for the 200K, probably the 300K. Then, I'll see how I feel the next day to determine whether I will stay for the 400K. I'm not so sure about the 600K. It's pretty early in the season and its "iffy" whether or not I'll be up to that kind of distance by then.
It's only a month and a half away and I still haven't done a century this year. This Saturday will be my first 100 mile ride since last fall.

My wife and I will be doing the 200km brevet on Saturday and have our room booked. But will be running a secret control for the 300km the following day.

I stayed at the Fuller Lake Hotel last time and made my reservation there. It's a disgusting little place, but it's more than $50/night cheaper than the Best Western. I'm still considering spending the extra money for someplace clean.

Over all I think it was $120.00 for the one night.

Oh man that sounds great. Maybe some day Spring break will align with that week and I can come up.

These routes really are a primer on the wonders of Vancouver Island ... that is if you're still seeing anything by day 6 ;)

If you're not up for the whole series, why not come for one or two? The Tour of the Cowichan Valley (Tour de Cow to us locals, but we throw in a few deer and llamas) is a particularly wonderful 200 -- a great way to start the spring series and Hell Week, not to mention sampling some of the best scenery VI has to offer. It starts on April 11, at 7am. Arrive early to enjoy a great breakfast at The Dancing Bean (http://www.dancingbean.ca/).

P.S. If you can't make Eau de Hell, but your interest is piqued, there are plenty more great events/routes on VI (http://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/schedule/sch_vi.html), with 2 full series this year (3 counting EdH). Classics are the challenging Tsunami 300, Back Road 400 and Pacific Rim 600.

Thanks for the tip. I asked for and got the Randonneur discount and made a reservation at the Best Western.
It's going to be an expensive week ($$$$) if I stay through the 17th for the whole brevet series.
I haven't cancelled my Fuller Lake Motel reservation yet. I'm still wondering if it's worth the extra $50/night to stay at the Best Western.
