A girlfriend of mine is one hell of a hard worker. She is not the type that messes around and takes her job seriously. She was in the back organizing her supplies, (some of it rather bulky and heavy) and being the short person that she is, found a way to do her job without the use of a six foot ladder but rather a three tier step stool.

Later that night she woke with with a painful fury with what she thought was another kidney infection flaring up.

Long story short, she went to the Dr, found out it was indeed injury to her back and now work is giving her a hard time because she didn't report it right away as a back injury.

She honestly thought it was a kidney infection.

She cannot really lay down, she is propped into a position that she cannot move from. It hurts to breathe and she feels bad because she can't play with her little boy and needs assistance just to walk or even move to a different position. She's in pain right now, on lots of meds that aren't helping and feeling pretty low. She really needs some cheering up right now. I'm on my way to go see her soon and it would be cool if I can print out words of happiness and encouragement from my Foo family. :)

Mich, I told her you wished her well and she said to tell you she is very grateful for your kind words.

back injuries just take time, don't worry it'll heal eventually.
just don't do anything strenuous.

I also know how painful back problems can be. But they do get better quickly with rest and PT. It's just a matter of the injured tissues to relax without spasms. Hope she recovers very fast.

Okay, Monique, the Foo-Squad is on the job. Here goes . . .

GO AWAY, BACK PAIN. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. JUST LEAVE.

And here's some Foo-energy coming your way. Ready? Here goes . . . Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . . .

Seriously, I truly hope this resolves quickly. Especially since any friend of Siu's is a friend of the Foo Nation. :thumb:

And as for work, I'm pretty sure that there is a rule of reasonableness in any requirement that you report job-related injuries quickly. I can see your bosses telling you that, in the future, report anything and everything even if you don't think it is job-rleated. But, in this instance, I fail to see how you reasonably believing it was not work related but telling them as soon as you found out differently can be held against you.

Be prepared to have an argument with the workers comp carrier, though (which is likely what the boss was concerned about). It's an argument you should win, but there may be a minor tiff.

Thank you everyone for the warm caring words of advice and humor!

I just came back from visiting her. I didn't have the chance to print up your greetings, because there were only a couple when I left. But I will bring them to her tonight or tomorrow after work.

She looks a lot like me when I bulged my disk in the lower back. Slightly hunched over, cannot lay on her back OR her side, cannot sit up. She has to be slanted sort of on her side and she has the futon set up like a taco. Can only walk to her kitchen and do a lap around the table. She's on the happy pills right now but she still feels the pain.

And she is soooo concerned because both of her bosses gave her a bad time about her injury. She feels really bad about it. But I told her it's because they cut hours so much that she had to rush - and that's pretty much the gist of it.

Poor thing. She asked me how she looked. I told her she looked like she is in pain. That didn't do much to comfort her because she doesn't want her son to see her like that.

When I show this to her I know that she is going to be happy. Thanks everyone.

If she's got good health insurance, she should forget about filing for workers compensation, the process is brutal and the treatment will be second rate

I think it's too late. Because that was already concluded at her last dr appt and work was notified. But yeah. They put you through the wringer. And they make you go to the "company" doctor.

When I got into an accident at work many years ago and paralyzed, I was written off as permanently disabled. I was too young and there was no way I was going to let that go. I fought it to go to a chiropractor and I was given three months. With many visits and lots of forced excercises I walked two days before that period ended. And now I'm riding bikes. :)

I'll be spending whatever time I can with her, though.

Get better soon Monique, here goes some Foo love, energy and best wishes your way. And now for something completely different...

A FIREMAN came home from work one day and told his wife, "You know, we have a wonderful system at the fire station: BELL 1 rings and we all put on our jackets, BELL 2 rings and we all slide down the pole, BELL 3 rings and we're on the fire truck ready to go.

"From now on when I say BELL 1, I want you to strip naked. When say BELL 2, I want you to jump in bed. And when I say BELL 3, we are going to make love all night." The next night he came home from work and yelled, "BELL 1!" The wife promptly took all her clothes off.

When he yelled "BELL 2!", the wife jumped into bed. When he yelled "BELL 3!", they began making love. After a few minutes the wife yelled "BELL 4!" "What the hell is BELL 4?" asked the husband?

"ROLL OUT MORE HOSE," she replied, "YOU'RE NOWHERE NEAR THE FIRE!"

Get well soon.
Ernest
