Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've heard that its tough to ride your tri bike on town streets because you are in the aero position which reduces visibility. Where do you find places to train? Just on bike paths? I really want a Tri bike, but I don't know where I should/could train. If you all think the roads are fine I could go with that.

Whoever told you that must have sand in their vag because you can ride your tri bike anywhere that you would ride a road bike. I ride with a nice size group of triathletes and venture off on my own some weekends and no problems here.

I ride mine on the same roads that I ride by road bike or my fixed fear. If you're riding in places where you might need quick access to your brakes you can always use the bullhorns instead of the aero bars. Visibility is not an issue if your fit is right.

Wherever you heard that from, I wouldn't listen to whoever said that. Town, city, country, and even up mountians I ride my Tri. bike everywhere.
or my fixed fear.
Freudian slip? :lol::lol:

Just curious; I heard that riding a tri/TT bike when not on the aero bars (eg. using bullhorns) is fairly strenuous - is this true?

It's just like riding on the middle part of the bars on a road bike. You are in a more upright, comfortable position. The only problem is that you have to reach over to the aerobars to shift, which is not really a big deal.
The only place I don't ride my tri bike is to work because I can't carry all my work stuff on it easily.
