Okay...the rumors seem to be true about new/cheap Marzocchi stuff so far.
My new R cartridge has intermittent damping. When I climb a long smooth hill, I have to cycle the fork for about 20-30sec before it damps. Otherwise it's a pogo stick. (up AND down) No compression either.
I called Marz again and they said they'd gladly send me a new R cartridge. I took the bait for a while, but then went for another ride. I called them back and asked if I could do a fork credit / trade up to a 4x or DJ1 (though I didn't want to go all the way back down to 4") The guy said that he was running the R cartridge for a while and it started acting up, so he had the tech's drill it out to simulate an open bath which worked for a while...but it all when to crap eventually. He put in a 2009 TST cartridge on his. I said "But the TST's have such a bad rap...I don't know if I want to do that." He told me that the 2009 is a completely different cartridge b/c of all the crap they had to deal with for the 2008 model. He said the TST runs $130 but he'd give me factory cost at $65, so I decided to do that. I will say that if I can get this damping issue straightened out...this fork is still heaven. When it damps...it RAWKS. It's sooo smooth and perfect...except when it's not perfect
I'm disappointed, but we'll give the TST a try. If it doesn't work out...I'm looking toward a different domain.
I know sometimes they tell you what they think you want to hear, but the dude seemed fairly genuine about his sour opinion toward the 2008 R cartridge and TST. He's actually running the same cartridge that he'll be sending me.
I'm optimistic still.
Why me? I should have just pissed my wife off and spent the $450 on the 2007 Z1 Bomber. Her happiness means the world to me though.
