Was wondering if this shifter

Amazon Link Shimano SL-MC40 (http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-SL-MC40-Alivio-Shift-Lever/dp/B000A6D1A0)

is one of the better 7 speed shifters widely available these days? I do not care about brand SRAM is also fine, it just needs to work with Shimano derailers. I have some old shifters on my bike I am rejuvenating, and when I was pulling off the old cables today I was thinking how much easier it would be to start with new shifters and cables.

Not many choices anymore. The Shimano SL- (http://www.bikepartsusa.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=01-129865&source=froogle)MC40 (http://www.bikepartsusa.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=01-129865&source=froogle) or Sram TRX (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/SL400A10-Sram+Trx+Trigger+Shifter+Set.aspx) will work with Shimano derailleurs, although I would favor the SL-MC40 over the TRX.

I just purchased the sl-mc40 from JensonsUSA and it works great with older stx derailleurs on a 1991 GT Timberline. PGMikeT
