Road Bike Racing - A Sunday in Hell

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Having some serious time on my hands (I have a broken tibia), I bought the DVD "A Sunday in Hell'. It's a film that reviews the 1976 Paris-Roubaix spring classic. If you haven't seen it, and you like road racing, I suggest that you get it. It's so much more than just race coverage, and it's done (perhaps just a bit overdone) with cinematic flair.
Anywho, I won’t spoil it for anyone. Suffice to say that it’s a good DVD, and worth every cent I paid!
Oh, man. What a good movie. I borrowed this one from a friend about six months ago, and I'm never giving it back. ;) So cool to see the same pave, the same forest, the same corners, ridden by the legends of cycling. DeVlaeminck. Merckx. Moser. Maertens.
Allow me, if you will, to act out one of my favourite scenes, where we ride in the Brooklyn team car, as it approaches DeVlaeminck:
Brooklyn DS: "Roger! ... Roger!"
[DeVlaeminck looks over]
Brooklyn DS: "FlemishflemishflemishMAERTENSFlemishflemish!"
DeVlaeminck: "Annnh?"
Brooklyn DS: "FlemishflemishflemishMAERTENS!"
[DeVlaeminck picks up the pace]

A must own, absolutely magnificant piece of filmmaking.
Merckx is classic with his little ruler... adjusting the saddle until it's just perfect.

Thanks for the tip I have'nt seen it and I love PR! I'm guessing it won't be in your average video store but I got a cycling friend that gets his movie rentals online, it's probably there.
Buy it for the cycling, and Eddie's obsessive compulsive disorder...cherish it for the soundtrack...
PAHHHREEEEE ROOOOOBAYYYY! I love that.

I think this movie made my collarbone heal quicker, almost as quickly as the Crash video helped break it. Oh, the connection between WCP and my bones!
I have been meaning to get that but lean times have forced me to put it on hold. The DVD is really cheap, so I'll get it as soon as I can. I can't wait to see it!
If anybody saw the Lance Chronicles, tonight, the scene in the hotel room where Lance is measuring his bike with a T-Square and a ruler is reminiscent of Merckxsy in a Sunday in Hell.

Two more excellent films you may want to check out are:
The Hard Road-documenting the start of a new pro team in the U.S. and their trials and tribulations throughout the year on the U.S. racing scene...A dynamite movie!!!
Road to Paris-documenting Lance and the USPS's preparation for the 2001 Tour...A must view as well.
Good luck with your injury,
Jeff

Don't forget the Impossible Hour. You're up late, you can't sleep...pop that baby in - sweet dreams are on their way.

I've heard so many horrible things about this film that I hesitate to check it out.
Anyway, it can't be worse than American Flyers.

It's kind of a cross between Survivor and a Sunday in Hell. There's a lot annoying stuff but a lot of cool stuff too. It's also available on Netflix so you don't have to buy it.

Hey man. Go easy. :p American Flyers was an awesome movie. And that fella who played Eddy Merckx was outstanding. ;)
Plus, if you really want to talk about timeless soundtracks... Well, no. Never mind.

Agreed it is definately a snoozefest. I literally did fall asleep watching it and I still haven't finished it. I did like Stars and Watercarriers though, what a classic.
