Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - quick question, sorry if it's dumb

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. i've started planning out my first fixie, gonna use an old trek 520 frame my friend gave me. i was browsing around online for wheels/hubs and got a little confused on one point: is a double-sided track hub the same as a flipflop fixed/free hub? thanks for any help.

some double-sided hubs are fixed/free. also called a flip-flop hub. i am guessing that a double-sided track hub means it is fixed on both sides. generally people run a larger sprocket on the other side for different riding conditions.

I'll second this
You can still run a freewheel on these. I think. It's just that these have threads for a lock ring on both sides where one that says fixed/free only has threads for a lockring on one side.

Hi ! I am a new fixed gear rider hear in Cincinnati. I built up an old Raleigh International last fall. Its been my main ride since I built it...leaving a carbon fiber Trek gathering dust in the basement. I have fantasies about making the Trek the lightest fixed gear seen.
The Raleigh is built as follows: I put new rims on it and re-dished the back wheel (still tubular tires). I didn't bother with a lock ring or locktite and instead just left both brakles on it in case of emergency, laziness, or a big downhill...(the cog hasn't budged even when I use my legs to brake).
Anyway, just wanted to say Hi. I live up near the Kenwood Mall.
WOOHOO! Another Cincinnati person! I thought I was the only one. My Fix is also a Raleigh. It's an old 78 Competition GS with reynolds 531 tubing. It's a great bike! Now we only need about 20 more people before we can make the chicago geeks a minority.

I'd be very surprised if another Marin Fixie posted. However, I've got OneTinSloth and BlastRadius "in the house" [insert random assorted Z's in that phrase (hizzouse etc.)]
