I have been riding for many years now and I just got a HRM for the first time. I have always had a very quick recovery, but I was surprised to see how quickly my HR drops after an rise. For example, I'll fly up a hill and get my HR up (into mid-high zone 4) and a few seconds after the hill my HR drops really fast back to a low rate. I suspect that this is good (right?:) ) and was wondering how "normal" this is. Anyone have similar results?

Actual numbers and the times you are seeing the change?

I'm about to go for a 40 mile ride... I'll pay more attention and post after the ride.

That's all i ever do I - is talk about how great my heart is, and I've "always" had a good recovery time, even though I just bought my HR monitor last week..... Yuk, Can I pose with you for the next photo?

Who pissed in your Cornflakes?

Yeah no kidding! I was just asking for some advice, obviously I'm new to the whole HRM thing. (see where I say: I just got a HRM for the first time)

So today I was riding up a moderate hill with my HR at 166ish, 20 seconds after I got to the top it was down to 140, then 20 seconds later it was down to like 115. I'm gonna keep better track (I'm still learning how to use the HRM information)... [insert joke/comment about how dumb I am]... Anyways... I am going to start paying more attention to my HR. Anyone else have similar results?

Are you anywhere near your max heart rate?

Are you guessing on the time between the drop in heart rate, or are you checking it on the log on your computer when you download it?

What is your age and your max heart rate?

Maybe your max HR is 200, so that might be very normal recovery time, where someone around my age that 166 is getting closer to my max HR and dropping 45 in 40 seconds would be great.

No, I'm not close the max. My max is 197. I'm 22. So, (if I understand correctly) if I'm near my max heart rate and still see rapid decline that would be good? Otherwise that's about normal?
