Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Bikeisland THE JURY frame set.

First, I have searched, but the other posts are old and don't get any activity anymore. So, I figured I would start up a fresh thread.

I have been debating buying a Jury frame set for a while now. I think the blue and silver are awesome colors. I would just like to hear some reviews (good and bad) from the owners. Does the headset come installed? How is the paint quality? How is the geo? Any pictures of your builds? Any downsides to the frame?

I do not actually own a Jury but was looking in to one. However, they require insanely long reach brakes (70-90mm) which are fairly hard to find. Also I believe the geo is similar to that of other track bikes but with wider clearances for fenders and the like.

From what I gathered, the front takes a normal brake. However, the rear will need a "long reach" brake. Anyone else have any more information on this?

I also thought that the geo was more relaxed compared to the kilo tt. Again, I could be wrong.

Hopefully we get some answers from people who have this bike. I would really like this thread to get some attention and have a lot of info like the kilo tt and the leader threads.

the front brake require tektro r556, velo orange has them. the rear requires some kind of drop bolt.

I had the frame for a while, ended up passing it on to someone without ever building it up. It will require prep (bb and headset faced, bb threads cleaned) before riding, so factor that into the cost. The paint looked cheap to me in person but some folks like it- be warned, it does look kind of plastic. Dropouts seemed pretty decent quality, but honestly the bike just never "did it" for me, you know? On the other hand, it does have fender and rack mounts and a **** ton of tire clearance, so it would be a great commuter/winter bike.

the frame has very very relaxed geometry, a wide wheelbase, and very large tire clearances. It'd be a good commuter that's pretty much it. The headset does not come installed, and the paint job is so so. But this would definately be a hood bike to throw some larger tires and racks on

The thing I heard people liking about that bike was that you could put some fat tires on it. I don't think that frame really took off. People always preferred the kilo tt's geometry.

What's the difference in geometry? I'm not talking about the numbers but seat of the pants differences. Has anyone ridden both?

I actually read that thread. If I can remember, your main beef was with the long reach brakes. Admittedly, they do look like crap. I don't think they affect performance though. I was looking for a frame that you could fit fenders on and had a less aggressive geometry. When you're over 50 you don't quite bend a well 20 years old. :( A lot of DB offerings seem to have a more aggressive riding position

the jury is the same frameset used for the torelli tipo uno I have a jury and I enjoy the ride the geo is similar to older road geo slightly aggressive yet forgiving I have out fit min with a cross fork and large tires for comfort and utility

the long reach brakes are quite easy to acquire i beleive they are dia compe racers hat will work as well as older mafac and replicas found at velo-orange or you could use u-brakes with and adapter plate found at most bmx suppliers u-brakes are much better in my opinion but your mileage may very hope i was of some help see my bike in the pics thread

That's why I'm looking for something without that long TT. Typically I ride a 56CM TT or a MTB with a 21" TT.

At almost 59 - I can second that; I guess I could get more flexy with Yoga; but it will never be like being 2o agian LOL. So I can tell you that is part of the thinking behind the Jury frame; less aggressive - more comfortable

Now we have on the way the Kilo WT, which is like a steamroller with a bit better specs; less aggressive - more comfortable

And we have the Fantom UNO and Outcast now

New Windsor Cliff 29.1 also aimed at SS market, out late this year;
And 4130 Dawes 29er the Deadeye also a SS market bike [which can have DiscBrakes &/OR Der added later by owner** - also late this year.

And Windsor TIMELINE, which will be a wide tire comfy SS/FG like Clockwork but with 32c stock and ability to go 23c to 42c;

Also working on Kilo WT5 with internal hub and bar-con

I love this style of bikes and want to have options that will fit what people are wanting; aggressive to relaxed. We will not stop the aggressive bikes, and are actually adding a DA level AL Track Racer; but we will add lots of bikes that are a bit more relaxed.

I've been seriously looking at the Fantom UNO. There doesn't seem to be much info on it out there. The white version looks really nice.

i finally saw a chrome one up-close and in person yesterday, and they look quite good (especially with slightly larger tires).

My girlfriend ordered the orange, color is really nice with some metal flake. The durability of the paint however is a different story. Word of advice, be careful where you lock it, as hers has chipped in several spots. The geo is very relaxed just looking at the rear wheel clearance will explain a lot. I have an 80's fuji conversion along with my Kilo and my Fuji has tighter geometry. That being said, she commutes on it regularly, can track stand for days, has a few bwc's under her belt but isn't really interested in jumping gaps or wall rides any time soon. I think it makes a great commuter SS or Fixed. I also like the built in chain tensioners. Bikeisland may benefit from showing the bike built or at least partially built on the site.

My wife has a White one; she put on a bigger ring, slick tires, flipped the bars and sawed them off to bull horn type - added a rack and commutes to the office

We sell this well, not does not fly out as quick as Hours and Kilo TT
probably somewhat due to price point; however we have sold out many loads of the UNO
and customers seem to love it
