Lorain Triskett? I've never even heard of them.

I guess I also forgot Dale's.

I'm not really sure what to call them. It is on Lorain right near the intersection of, guess what, Triskett. The actual name is Lorain Triskett Schwinn, but he recently stopped selling Schwinns and now sells Specialized. It's a small shop, just the one guy and I think his wife helps out with the office part. Usually it is just him.

Funny thing, he lives on the street that I ride to work on. And I live about 5 blocks from the shop. I see him every now and again and wave.

Lorain Triskett bike shop is run by Larry Read, it's just a neighborhood shop. We have raced sailboats against Larry for over 20 years. One time he hired a guy to help in the shop. That guy was Paul Marchese who later went into the custom speedskate boot manufacturing business. Paul's boots have won 58 Olympic medals. Paul also makes some very nice bike shoes.

Just bought a 15 lbs. aluminum Trek bike at Eddy's in Stow as a Christmas present. Oh, it has 16 inch wheels for a 5 year old kid. The day before that my buddy (ex. Parma Cycle) took me down to Fredrich Bikes, what a strange place.

Don't forget Schneider's at Lorain & Denison. They've been around since the 40s and where I got my first bikes when I was a little kid growing up down there.

Is Schneider's still open? I though that the robbery and beating 3 years ago, closed the shop.

Dunno...I heard he was retiring and they would close the shop about a year ago, but I'm pretty sure he and his kid were still keeping it open up to that time even after that ugly incident, and I keep hearing rumors that it is still open. I ain't been back down to the hood in a while.

89th and Detroit is one of the nice neighborhoods of the area. I grew up on 95th, south of Denison, half a block north of Sunrise park. I remember when they built the public pool at Sunrise (it ain't there anymore). First season it was open someone drove a car through the fence and into the pool...and a body was discovered in the trunk of the car. Good times.
