Last Saturday I was ride from the George Washington Bridge to the Tapanzee Bridge via 9W (about 35 miles) and got my first flat in about a year which is about 1200 miles for me. I bought this road bike which was my first from LBS last year and at the same time I bought three spare tubes. I just assumed they sold me the correct tubes for the bike... What's the old saying "Never assume... it makes an "ass" of "u" and "me". Well I get a flat shortly after the Tapanzee Bridge my friend and I pull over and start to change the tube and can't figure out why the valve is so short... Couldn't get my pump to lock onto the valve... must have futzed with it for about 30 minutes before we compared the valve size of the old tube vs. the new tube.... Darn! Lucky for me A:) Someone was riding with me B:) There was a bike shop within a few miles of where we were. So end story friend rode off to get me the correct tubes... lucky we had money. I looked stupid sitting on the side of the road crossing my legs cause I had to pee and there were no semi private places to go.... Waiting... A few nice bikers stopped to ask me if I was ok and chat with me which was nice... but other bikers just zipped passed me... Sa La Vie.... It was funny now that I look back on it... and I learned something new about tubes... SHORT VALVE BAD... LONG VALVE GOOD... So in this case SIZE DID MATTER!!
