Hello,
I was referred over here from my watch forum. I have had this bike in my basement for years, and someone has now offered to buy it. I have been searching on ebay, CL, etc trying to find a value, and am having a tough time. I did take a look at sheldonbrown.com which your site has referred me to as well. The question I have is, can someone give me an idea of the value of this Bianchi? I have seen on Ebay that some Vintage Cranks sell for close to $300 and Frames up to $1200. I do know this is not in mint condition, needs a new chain, and some TLC, so it wouldn't fetch that kind of $$$, but I don't want to give it away either. Any help would be appreciated.
THANKS!

Not a bad bike, but on the lower end of the Bianchi hierarchy. I just sold a Strada model, in better shape than yours with a new set of tires (but not re-cabled or greased) for $100.

Ok, thanks. That makes me fell a little better. The guy wasn't offering very much and I sold another Bianchi about a year ago for $700 only later to find that the Frame was worth $1100 alone.
Thanks!
Totally cleaned up and ready to ride, maybe $200. Tange infinity is a nice frame, bike has aero brake levers, and downtube shifters, the rest of the components appear to be low end. And bike would need some work to be in the ready to ride condition: new cables, new tires, everything adjusted, new bearings and grease. Something is going on with the brakes that will have to be addressed, along with some minor rust issues.
Someone might pick it up as is for $100, put this work into it and have a $200 bike when they are done. Such work done by a local bike shop would cost about $200, so you or the buyer needs to be willing to do the work to make it logical cost wise. Doing it yourself can mean $25 to $30 in parts, the rest is labor.
I have bought cranks like that one for under $20.
The Tange Infinity frame is really the best part and alone is probably worth the $100.
Make sure that seat post is not stuck. That can be a can of worms.

I picked up an immaculate, 1990, Bianchi Forza. It's bright red, just like yours. It's a double butted, Tange chromoly frame, similiar to yours. It has 14 speed, index on the downtube shifters, 700C rims. It has maybe a half dozen small scratches, otherwise perfect. I paid $120 for it last year.

Seen similar bikes recently (this past month) on New York Craig's list with (Winter) asking prices of about $150. One had various cycling accessories and was supposed to have cost over $500 new. The other (1985) was in need of tires, and was supposed to have cost over $700 new.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or do I see a dent in the seattube?

i used to have that exact same bike (if a bit smaller) until 3 weeks ago when it got stolen on campus...*sigh*
i bought mine last year in a really hot...eh...fixie market (Downtown LA) for $200, so that was an ok price.

Kurt, I think it's a poor pic. Either that or there are many dents in the seattube about every 2 or 3 cms according to my screen.

No dents, the decals on the seat tube are pealing tho. That might be what you are seeing. Here are some better pics. Also, the brakes, I just haven't screwed them on after I put the wheels back on.
