Mountain Biking - WHATS UP?! new here

Whats going on guys.... just thought i would introduce myself
names Chris.. from nyc
i used to race bmx YEARS ago... 95-98 did alot of street as well as trails had a few sponsorships nothing big.
im getting back into the game (for fun of course) but i dont want to go the 20 inch route again..
im looking around and i see so much going on with mtb's and im just so psyched.
i want to pick up a bike and loose the bmx.
so basically any help would be so greatly appreciated...
looking for basicaly a bike (was looking at the speciaized p1 (or other p series)) or references.. i dont have a lot of money to put into it to start... unless i can part out the bmx...
looking for places to ride cause everywhere i used to go is basicaly.. well.. GONE..
and just guys to chat up and get pointers... its been a while... and im excited!

Welcome to the forums Chris. Coming from BMX I would definately look at the p series. The frames fit similar to bmx bikes and are very easy to whip around. Kona also has a series to look at as well. The Stuff/Roast is a very nice bike.

If you are on the east coast you might also want to consider the Ironhorse Porter. Street/dj bike with similar geometry to the above mentioned bikes.

Another consideration is GACKBMX, they make a 26" cruiser with BMX style handlebars, full chromoloy and even an American bottom bracket, so you can swap over yours.

I see their ads in the back of Mountain Bike Action, but have never seen/ridden one, but I'm always curious.

its appreciated... Checked out the stuff and the roast.. there hot... still kind of leaning towards the Specialized.. only because i remember them from when i used to ride so i know the name...
as for the gack.. im trying to get away from the chromoly... i mean i think ive had enough of 4130... always wanted to upgrade but got out of it before i actualy did... so i dont want to go back that route.. but they look pretty burly.
any other suggestions?

First off, welcome to the forums, and welcome back to the cycling world. YOu really can't go wrong with any of the hardtails mentioned right now. Maelstrom rides a Roast, I ride a modified Stuff. But came very close to getting a P2, my only problem is that the one I tried did not feel right to me, it would be a wise idea to get the long version of the pseries. In reality though it is even hard to find an Ironhorse dealer on the east coast. There are some but they are really spread out. Another bike you could look at is the Evil Imperial, you will pay much higher for one, but the Imperial is nearly bullit proof.

Oh yeah, my Hardtail is a 2002 IronHorse Sinister!

There are a lot of burly bikes available now. Heck, if you're on a budget, check out the HARO's. They've got a sweet hardtail for little money!
