Hi,
I was searching for "arm pain" in the road forum and all I got was the newest postings on the road forum. Tried various searches and again, all I get are new postings. I use Firefox btw......any help?

I am also having troubles searching. The function used to be great and would tell me what percent of relevancy the thread was. Now I just get all sorts of stuff nothing even close to what I am looking for.

not working for me either. I searched for "old chains" including quotes, and got back a ton of unrelated results: http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=5736640
This has been happening to me for a few days now, since the last maintenance I think.
It's like it's doing a 'search for any' instead of a 'search for exact' or something.

No, the stupid search function is broken again, guys.
I don't know what to do about it, let's hassle a moderator!

It seems the search only processes words of 4 or more characters.
If you do a search for [old chain] (no quotes), the engine results: The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: old
Try searching for [worn chain] or ["worn chain"] or [chain stretch]
http://google.com
Search for your string and then add site:bikeforums.net

3 or less characters require quotation marks oif their own for processing.

that's nice, but it doesn't have the filtering that the built-in engine offers.

I searched for banjo brothers backpack using the main Search all Forums and came back with the most recent posts from all of the sub forums. Then I searched in just the Commuting forum. Result was the same, just the newest posts irregardless of thread topic.

Was that the only thread that your search yielded?
I remember when I searched for something before, it would yield various threads based upon relevance. So that thread you found would be a 100% match, then some one recommending it in another thread would be less, and so on.

yes, it's the only result.

Just did a search for [arm pain] as titles only as bdcheung suggested, titles only, and bracketed, and got these results
knee pain and crank arm length? (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=432500&highlight=%5Barm+pain%5D)

Thanks, bd. :D Looks like you've gotten a little insight in how to narrow the parameters, nicely.

I was searching for tire opinions in the road forum. I searched 'new tire', 'training tire', [new tire], and I keep getting the same crap. Is there something wrong with me?
[training tire] : http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=5755325
[new tires] : http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=5755328
training tire : http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=5755344
It's all the same junk. I know there have been countless threads talking about tires, why are they not showing?
Just in case those links don't work I've uploaded a screen shot. What am I doing wrong?
the search function through the top right "search this forum - show threads" doesn't seem to work correctly. (right)
the search function through the top "search forums" works just fine. (left)
these two 'same' searches don't display the same threads either, and I did those within 10secs of each other.

Is there any sort of update on the search? Not that it's a big deal, but are we supposed to choose 'titles' under advanced search now for threads related to our search? We doesn't the search function bring up thread titles ahead of individual posts with the search term in them? Seems like that would make sense.
I've been having problems as well. I finally got tired and just selected the 'title' type. Narrowed my results down pretty good, but still not getting the % relevant match like I used to.

Please, someone, fix the effing search function. Without it, this forum becomes only half useful. Not to mention it gets tiring reading flaming telling people to "search", knowing damn well the search function isn't working right.

ye when I search using the main search tool I get loads of irrelevant results, this does seem to be because it is doing search any instead of search all. I can limit my results a bit by only searching titles but obviously this isn't a robust solution.

Regardless if the search function is working or not, it is always tiresome reading the self appointed BF Guardians flameing about how others should use the search function.

it may not be working well, but it is currently working.
The search function used to be a great research tool--I haven't been able to use it to find anything for a while. I almost started a thread in the subforum I visit most frequently, but realized someone might have started a thread about the search function problem already. I actually went to search for it!
Any prognosis?

what are you searching for?
^A solution to the search problem!
Really though, anything and everything. I have questions sometimes about mods I want to do on my R20, for example, or about a cx bike I'm interested in. Without rehashing different tpics that have already been covered thoroughly, I can find answers and info through the search function, which is what, when it works, makes it such a useful tool.

Sorry for being unclear.
What specific search terms and parameters have you tried?
I've searched for threads with mention of "Raleigh twenty forks" and fork mods, for example. When I limit to title, I do get some threads that are right on for that topic. But if I look in general, I find the search function doesn't do what it used to, which, as far as I can remember, was more precise.

A lot of getting this search engine to work for you is knowing the right combination of words and quotation marks to input.

Just ignore A&S then?
Actually, the half you say is useful is 100% functional or so I guess.

Yeah, I used quotes too and did get some hits, like I said. Still though, something is awry with the search function.
