I don't have any dielectric grease. Anyone have any tips on how to keep the powertap head unit from dropping out when it gets wet? My assumption is "don't let it get wet". Any tips are greatly appreciated.

That's what I do.

I have a race. Maybe I can get everyone to bring their trainer to my house...probably not.

It's those stupid connectors on the back of it....I never did figure out anything. Maybe drilling some drain holes in the mount....it never took much rain to screw it up either...

^^ lol! Good point. I probably won't race with my PT [just in case of weather or crashes]. I can't afford to replace it right now.

Is this really a problem for all you guys to the point you don't ride your PTap when it's wet?

That's a big plus for the wireless models if you're all having that much trouble.

My SL 2.4, headunit and hub, can be ridden in any weather without incident.

I-- myself-- don't ride [outside] when it's wet. Thus my PT never has to worry about it. :D

Same principal, but I use non-zip sandwich baggies. This is certainly not an issue that would have me going to a wireless alone. In questionable weather, I just band one around anyway. Takes all of like.. oh... 2 seconds?

I'll have to try the bag. Nothing like having to pull it off and blow all the water off the mount and terminals in the middle of a 5' interval. I could probably fit a bag into my patch kit.

I've gotten caught out in the rain with my wired PTap (2.4 coded) a few times. No problems. I once had a problem with the data dropping out, that was because the wired harness had a spot of stripped insulation on the underside of the bike that shorted out. I re-did the electrical tape over it after it dried out and it has been fine.

I'm very happy with the PTap, seems to be very accurate, well made and durable, Saris support is really excellent when you need them.

i just spent a few bucks on the dielectric grease and haven't had any problems since.

Somehow I managed to make it through with no dropouts. I'm amazed though. I still have water coming out of the wheels and frame.

Kudos on finding a solution, but I wouldn't be so proud of it.
