Since the job market for IT people is lackluster at best, I keep debating starting my own company, seeing if I can find some suck... er VC people or SBA loans, and work on a small business.
Couple ideas include helping other businesses with Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, and other nasty laws, making sure businesses have what they need for that, or some tools to help musicians when gigging (special lock box that serves both as a Time Machine dump and a place to lock up the Cubase/VST Plugin license key dongle.)
Think its worth the long shot? I have worked at/for startups, but have never done one myself, and man, when you ask for advice, ask four people, get five answers.
