Great Lakes - What's the riding like around Cincinnati?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm moving to Erlanger, KY (5 miles south of Cincinnati according to Google Maps) in about 5 months - what's the riding like in the area? How are the roads? What's the terrain like? Any good clubs around? How active is the racing scene? How accepting is the local non-cycling population?

On the Ohio side, we have one of the most extensive paved "Rails to Trails" systems in the country. The Little Miami River Trail is 120 miles long and it runs from Milford, an Eastern suburb of Cinci, on up to Springfield. Along the way is the town of Xenia, a trail hub, where three other trails intersect the LMRT. All in all, over 300 miles of paved bike trail is easily accessible from the LMRT.

There are also several other trails running out of Cinci. One follows along the Great Miami River, and a few others follow along its various branches. Most have maps which are available on-line.

Roads are crappy ( potholes, metal construction plates, debris), although some aren't too bad. Terrain is flat to rolling, any rides in to Cincy are pretty much downhill, so most rides out are pretty much uphill. Traffic isn't generally accepting, but most people just go about there business. We have the Cincinnati Cycle Club, which organizes a lot of rides. Racing, couldn't tell you. And I don't know much about KY, but one of the best LBS's around here is Team Cycling and Fitness.

CCC and TC&F are on the net. Check them out.
