Are bib shorts worth it for training. I am guessing that nobody is wearing bibs for swimming, so why wear bibs?

Thoughts????

More comfortable for general riding, plus I wear a tri suit for tris, not =just tri shorts, so bibs are kind of like a tri suit.

Plus, bibs never ride low and show my ass crack to the world, which shorts have been known to do........

i train in bibs. thats all i own now. i have one pair of shorts but i prefer bibs on all rides. but i have my first tri coming up and don't know what to wear really or to change and such. i figured i'd invest in a tri suit...any suggestions? tri short and top or single piece tri suit?

I guess I could look for a tri suit. I was thinking I needed to workout in the clothes that I would be wearing for the tri's. That is why I was thinking that bib shorts wouldn't be very good.

I'll admit I don't have a tri-suit yet but will be getting one before the season. I do wear bibs when I do my training rides. Here's my take on things -- your training rides will be longer/more frequent then your races. We give up time for comfort in the transition, I'm sure if transitions were untimed everyone would switch into their normal bike/run outfits. Since they're timed we need to find the happy medium for clothing that will both keep us comfortable running and comfortable pedaling. As far as bibs going, everything you read on hear about their comfort is spot on. They are totally worth the expense!

You do want to do a couple of bikes and runs and bricks in your tri suit/shorts, so you know what they feel like, but you don't need to do many.

saxman is right...bibs are definitely worth it. i'll always train in them up til the last week or something of training

but any experience between a tri suit and just tri shorts?

sorry about the thread jack..kinda

Something I am going to try on my training rides is wearing a pair of bike shorts over a tri suit. It would be easy to pull on the bike shorts in T1, and easy to pull them off in T2, all the while keeping the tri suit on underneath.

I train in bibs because I find them to be more comfortable than regular shorts. For race day and the occasionall training ride I wear a one piece tri suit from Desoto Sports.

caelric i like that idea. thats what i have been considering doing, but this season i'll be doing mostly sprints so i don't think it will be a big deal. for the olympic i might do that
