Classic & Vintage - know about old huffy sportsmans?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just picked up an older bike at a thrift store. It says its a huffy sportsman (looks like a cruiser) and apears to be somewhat old (It has stickers of approval from the bicycle manufacturing association). I was wondering if anybody knew when these bikes were produced or anything else about them. Also on the right handle it has the letters L N H and it seems that those may refer to different gears (?) but I'm not sure. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
It could be a Raleigh-built Huffy from the early '60s.

Yes, built by Raleigh for only a couple years in the early 1960s. You'll find a 2-digit date code on the rear hub.
It sounds like it has a Sturmey-Archer Twist Grip 3-speed shifter.

Look on the rear hub. It probably says "Sturmey ARcher" and some other stuff. If you see a two digit number like "65" that means it was made in 1965.
