Hey I like that show. I am even thinking about buying all 10 seasons on DVD.
Hey I like that show. I am even thinking about buying all 10 seasons on DVD.
Be and "Friend" and don't bring them over.
I have to agree that I liked the show too. Of course it got trite some of the times but still it was enjoyable as a whole. I was highly amused by the one episode where Phoebe gets the bike. I'm not sure the name of the episode but given the "Friends" naming scheme for their episodes, that may in fact be its name.
Sure, it had some good writing. But how annoying those characters and how annoying all the Rachel and Ross clones stumbling around the trixie parts of town! At least I don't live there.
Yes you do, you live in Roscoe Village. That's the place where are the old Rachel/Ross types go. Best buy a handgun, the targets be gettin' thick
I never understood why that show is popular. It is so stupid I can't even watch it for 5 minutes. They are suppossed to be in New York City right? What alternate universe of NYC is that?! Besides the fact they are all annoying, stupid characters.
I'll be glad not to see all those commercials advertising, as my friend calls it: White Friends
I never liked that show. I never will. I see enough of it re-created everyday at my office. Stupid, spineless whiners. Petey, see if th gunstore is having a 2-for-1 sale...we'll go dutch.
Never watched it. But Courtney Cox is pretty cute.
I must say that I prefer Jennifer Anniston in her MC5 White Panther Party T-shirt over Courtney Cox...
I agree... the show always annoyed the crap out of me... as most sitcoms do... except Seinfeld.
Seinfeld was waaaaaaayyyyy better
Not the last episode, though. The last Seinfeld was just stupid; whereas the last Friends was sentimental. I'll take sentimental over stupid anyday.
Disclaimer: I don't really watch much TV and I don't have any particular attachment to either show; although in general, from what I've seen of both, Seinfeld appealed more to my sensibilities than Friends....
Sitcoms are pretty much all I watch these days. Seinfeld is undoubtedly up there with the best, as well as the Simpsons. Friends never caught my interest. I saw one episode once many years ago - I tihnk it was the episode entitled 'The one about a bunch of boring f*cks sitting around drinking coffee.' I quite like 'Just Shoot Me.' - there aren't enough workplace sitcoms. Relationship sitcoms are getting really tired, and 'Everybody loves Raymond' makes me want to punch someone.
It's a pity they don't show more British sitcoms here any more. I haven't seen a good new British sitcom on Australian TV since Red Dwarf finished. If anyone knows of any and I'm merely missing them, please let me know.
Most of all I wish they'd repeat The Goodies. Best. Sitcom. Ever.
AHHH, Brit sitcoms...Red Dwarf and Doctor Who were both outstanding...and both long gone from American TV.

Personally, I could never stand Seinfeld as a whole although small doses of it were okay. I do miss good workplace sitcoms too. I find it sad that for a long time, public interest was centered around shows which featured things that were supposed to relate to people's lives... work, family, friends... etc. These were typified in shows like Wings, Friends, Fraiser, Newsradio, Working, Suddenly Susan... Yet now, what is the prevalent form of entertainment thrown at us? Stupid "reality" shows (mostly rigged anyways) where people do the dumbest things for money.
Admittedly, I've never been a diehard fan of sitcoms except for maybe Simpsons. I tend to prefer shows most people would find boring. I'm liking a lot of the stuff on the various Discovery channels (Junkyard Wars, all the stuff on Discovery Wings, Airport), History (my friends called it "Hitlery") Channel and TLC (Junkyard Wars). I also like Spooks (renamed MI-5 here) and Airline (same concept as the British show, Airport).

What fun! :roflmao:

Check out the British sitcom The Office and do it soon. See that one before the American version is made which will no doubt lose all the sublty and dry wit of the Brit version.
for the last episode i so badly wanted that monkey to come back, infected the entire cast with the ebola virus and for 1 hour watch their slow torturous demise to get them back for the lack of character development and the insipid, pointless waste of everyone's time for at least the last 6 years.

I caught a couple of episodes on BBCA but haven't yet been able to get into it.

Come on... don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel. :D

I was beginning to think I was the only person in America that hated "Friends". I feel vindicated. In my worthless and unhumble opinion everything about that show sucked. But most of all, never in the history of television has a tv character irritated me as much as ROSS. Nobody is that big of an idiot, dork, (insert derogatory term here), plus he gets the hot babe. It just isn't right.
Personally I think the show should have ended 3 years ago, that was before
I came back to the states from South Africa where they didn't show it. I could have
missed the entire run.
What I find particularly disturbing is that all of these long running sitcoms are ending
and that they will be replaced by "survivor meets the apprentice in thefinal fantasy gross out can you eat really nasty stuff" reality shows. (and just who's reality is THAT?).
Bring back the Black Adder, now that was quality TV, or murder call.
(can I get in on the gun sale too?)
Marty
Did you see what NBC did to "Coupling?" That's what they'll do to "The Office."
Re "Friends": I'll grant you that it got soap-opery at times and that the Ross & Rachel thing was tiresome, but I loved "Friends." It was a true ensemble comedy, the humor was character-driven and the laugh lines were clever and sharp, and I always related to the characters. Maybe it's because I'm the same age as the characters and went through a lot of the same things.
My wife tends to be a Monica and she can always get a laugh out of me when I tell her something and she does Monica's "I KNOW!"
YES! It's over. Watched a couple of the first episodes and that was it. Never again. Now in a few years they'll do the Friends Reunion show which will get hyped for months. Arrgghh.
I would sooner march myself through an active minefield than be forced to sit through an episode of "Friends."
Read a book.

It's just a TV show, folks. Albeit a bad one. I talked my wife into taping the final episode so I could watch The Lance Chronicles. Then my wife called me this morning crying--she'd just watched it. That was kind of fun.

But you need cable for these shows!!! Who wants to pay extra for an extra gazillion channels of mostly bad TV??? The six or seven broadcast channels are more than enough for me, thank you. If I want nature shows there's always public TV.

It's funny to see the amount of emotion invested one way or the other towards just this one TV show. In the history of final episodes, I will have to admit that the best one I've seen to date (even though I was not that big a fan of the show) was the final episode of Quantum Leap. I thought it pretty craftily done.
There was a show here in USA in the mid 80's that ended with a nuclear explosion blowing up everybody. I can't remember what it was called though. Anyone know that one? I think it was a campy private eye show, but cannot recall.

True, it's too bad one has to pay to get those shows. I actually don't have cable. I have DirecTV and I got it specifically for OLN. I like PBS too but they still don't offer the same programming. I really haven't found much on the broadcast networks that I'm craving to see other than perhaps Simpsons. I watch NBC for local news and weather but switch to BBCA for real world news. Most my other news and entertainment comes from NPR (diehard Car Talk fan). Of the TV shows on the major networks that are going away at the end of this season, I think I will miss Fraiser the most. I found the comedy and writing in that show to be superior to Friends.
Yeah, I'm not a fan either. As for buying the series DVD's....
I'd rather purchase all the seasons of Stargate SG-1, which is more interesting to a sci-fi nut like me.
Sometimes I've watched an episode, and they have some very funny lines. BUt I was never a fan of the show. I think the worst was the monkey. A sitcom rule: don't introduce a cute animal as one of the central characters.

The monkey? Is that the one they call Ross?
No but it seemed to be on Ross' back an awful lot.... :D
I hated the show. I wish it was over. I'm not looking forward to channel-surfing through reruns, VH-1 or E! specials, or infomercial DVD advertisements.
"Friends" what a lame show! Give me the "Myth Busters" if theirs nothing cycling related on the tube.

When are they gonna give us the scoop on WD-40, or motor oil, or carbon fiber, or wheel weight and bikes? These are myths that I'm sure need busting :)
Oh, and though not a fan of the show, "Newhart" had one of the better finales when he awakens next to Suzanne Pleshette from "The Bob Newhart Show" and describes the dream he had about running a hotel in Vermont.
If they really wanted to torture the Iraqi prisoners, they should have shown them reruns of Friends.

We need to say what are myths are here in mass to get that to happen. http://discovery.infopop.net/1/OpenTopic?a=frm&s=6941912904&f=9701967776
My favorite was the episode with the frozen chicken shot out of the air cannon. But than again maybe it was the tree cannon. Adam was riding a bike looking for that granite cannon ball.
It's hard to see anything funny about a bunch of 40 year olds all sharing the same apartment. The only place you see that happen in real life is either a crack house, a Rescue Mission or a Mental factility.
I did find however that if you envisioned Rachel naked a lot it was a lot more tolerable.
Now if only we can eviserate all further reruns from the face of the earth, there will be justice in the world
You are SO right!! Now if we can somehow eliminate all Cher and Bette Midler recordings from the face of the earth (if anything, all "Believe" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" recordings!!). Tacky, tasteless, smarmy, etc, etc, etc....
My favorite Friends episodes were the ones with Chandler's ex-girlfriend-from-hell. Overall, Friends has been the best show on TV for the last ten years.
If they really wanted to torture the Iraqi prisoners, they should have shown them reruns of Friends.
Combine that with reruns of Home Improvement. Now that's beyond cruel. Call the Red Cross!
AHHH, Brit sitcoms...Red Dwarf and Doctor Who were both outstanding...and both long gone from American TV.
I don't think Dr. Who would be classified as a situational comedy, but it was great. Now Black Adder, that was fcuking funny.

I take it you never saw that Dr. Who movie that aired on Fox in the mid-90s. :D
By-the-by... I thought I read somewhere that they were going to start doing new episodes of Dr. Who. I'm not sure of the status. I read about it about a year ago.

No, I only watched the old black and white ones, and the ones with the curly haired dude with the long scarf. I only watch(ed) Fox for Married with Children, Jerry Springer, Cheaters... ;)

Towards the end, the "Friends" cast was getting over $1mil each per episode; Talk about getting OVERPAID for an unimpressive sitcom!
The ONLY reason I watched the first few seasons was: "Friends" was on after "Seinfeld" and before "ER".
Hey, "Friends" can still be considered a quality show when compared to the lame and superficial reality shows!!! :crash:
