Yesterday I was driving my wife to an appointment with her doctor. We had just turned out of the subdivision when I saw an adult woman cyclist riding on the sidewalk. It's not unusual to see an occasional adult cyclist on the sidewalk, but I had to look twice because this woman was wearing a long veil under her helmet. There is a muslim population around here, so women in veils are not that uncommon either, but the combination of veil, helmet and cycling on the sidewalk caught my eye. The thing is, not too far in front of her were several other women cycling on the sidewalk, ahead of them were a couple young men pushing their bikes up a hill, on the sidewalk, and in front of them on the descent was another male cyclist on the sidewalk approaching an oncoming pedestrian walking his dog. The pedestrial was leashing in his dog and getting out of the way. I felt sorry for that pedestrian because he was going to have to dodge cyclists several more times. I wanted to pull off, remind the cyclists of the they might try riding on the street, but we were running late. I certainly wasn't going to yell, "Get off the sidewalk!" at them.
