Utility Cycling - Back of my foot hits the kid hauler. Is that normal?

I'm using an '80s Trek Jetta and a Burley kid hauler. The Burley attachment hits the back of my foot. I've got the attachment situated as far back on the frame as possible but still my foot hits it. Is there a fix or do I have it connected improperly?

I have the same problem. Cant help, but I am interested in a solution.

It happens sometimes on my mountain bike, but not on my Surly LHT. The difference is that the LHT has longer chain stays so the trailer sits farther back. Most mountain bikes, hybrids, etc. have fairly short chain stays. Not sure if you have cages on your pedals or clipless, but if you go platforms you can move your feet forward a bit when you pedal.

are you using the chain-stay triangle mount or the quick release mount? If you're using the foremost, maybe switching to the latter will give you some more space. I'm planning on converting my Nashbar trailer to the quick release mount to solve the same issue.

Yes, I'm using the triangle mount. I don;t think my old Burley has a quick release mount I can buy. I thought it might be due to the shorter chain stays. Guess I'll have to look for a used toruing bike if I want to keep pulling the trailer. I'm already moving my feet as far forward on the platform pedal but I still hit the mount.

could you just attach a parallel piece to the chain stay that would extend further back and then attach the hitch to that?
