Foo - Foo Foto Contest--March

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've gotten a lot of great feedback from last month's contest.
February's images were extraordinary. So let's do this again.
Theme: Circles
Rules:
You must be the photographer.
One entry per month.
And this month try to make the image a current one (not going to be strict about that, just trying to encourage y'all to take new images).
Good luck everyone.

Theme: Circles
Great idea! The possibilities are vast. I'm looking forward to all the interpretations Foo will bring.
The word maru (丸, meaning "circle") is often attached to Japanese ship names. There are several theories associated with this practice.
* (The most common): That ships were thought of as floating castles, and the word referred to the defensive "circles" or maru that protected the castle.
* That the term maru is used in divination and represents perfection or completeness, or the ship as a small world of its own.
* For the past few centuries, only non-warships bore the maru ending. It was intended to be used as a good hope naming convention that would allow the ship to leave port, travel the world, and return safely to home port: hence the complete circle arriving back to its origin unhurt.
The first ship known to follow this convention was the Nippon Maru, flagship of daimyo Toyotomi Hideyoshi's 16th century fleet.
I'd like to make a suggestion. How about the winner of the previous month's contest (e.g., February) provides the next month's theme (e.g., April)? So the March winner will provide the theme for May.

Hmm... okay, circles. Well I just got back from a cruise (or ship... which ties to the wikipedia definition of circle above), and one of the stops was Aruba... this was the restaurant we had lunch in at Eagle Beach... circle tables, circle placemats, circles in the walls... so there you go. I thought it was stunning scenery, so I took the picture before other tourists croweded the place.

AllenG, I posted the wrong image and went back and corrected it. If that's not acceptable let me know and I'll pull it out of the post. If anyone is uncomfortable about my having done that let me know and I'll pull the image out. I want to keep the fun in this great thread.

Who won last month? Did I miss it?
This is shaping up to be another incredible month. How can I be expected to pick just 3 photos? :notamused:

I'm not going to have time to shoot a current image so I'm submitting this one.
I have an idea for a circle shot but I need a dusting of snow to make it work. No chance of that this weekend...

A five pound sack of flour, a skeet thrower, and a 12 Gage
No, something a little more delicate than that....

did you try some sort of external lighting? Maybe a focused lamp with a piece of paper taped over it? I dunno, these guys might have better suggestions...

I would try it on a dark background.
a flash diffuser.
or a bounce flash.
and or one of these,

Add to that side light.
It will add shadows which will allow the relief of the coin to show up better.

Oh no.. you need a new camera... just ask anyone :)
