This would probably be hilariously funny if I knew what Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon was. Now I have to go pick up some PBR and Dixie cups for my guests :p

It's about a $200/bottle red wine.

Oh, in that case it's probably too dry for my guests who are more accustomed to boxed wine in Dixie cups so I suppose if I jump on my rattle can black fixxie Paramount with the derailleur hanger cut off ;) and head down to the store for some 7-Up to sweeten it up with and make it fizzy that would be an improvement. Probably be good with Hawaiian Punch too :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

oh, and la chapelle is one of the other bottlings of hermitage from jaboulet-- the track bike to the road racer, one might say. wouldn't want you to be confused.

Back in my much younger days I worked at about the only local liquor store that had any kind of wine selection at all; all the managers seemed to have some sub-rosa scam from sports books to various powders and it was nothing for the night manager to call me down to the office at dinner time and say 'let's have a nice Lafitte Rothschild or Haut Brion or Cheval Blanc with our pizza and a bottle of Sauternes or Eiswein for dessert'. These guys were literally stealing the owner blind, but we did drink it all out of dixie cups.

Maybe it's just me. I can appreciate a nice bottle of red, but spending what a bottle of Dom cost? Had it. Not that impressed.

That's why I used it to make the Mimosa's. Like I said -It wasn't my dime. :D

I read a story about rich businessmen in Indonesia that would buy wine at $2k a bottle then mix it with 7-Up and chug it down. All about impressing others with the money they spent.


I loves my wine and have been to many wine tastings over the years but it's rare for the really expensive stuff to impress me enough to buy it. I did enjoy some T-Vine cabernet enough to buy a case at $60 a bottle.

Anyone else buy wine because of the label? I'm drinking a Pinot Noir called "Red Bicyclette" that's not bad at all. Especially for a vin Pays d'Oc. Label has a vintage commuter bike on it.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife thought she was grabbing a bottle of Grey Goose to pour into her Bloody Mary. She got my grappa instead! She ought to know better; I buy her Aristocrat or Popov in the plastic bottle for those Bloody Marys. :lol:

I like to use Belvedere as my "mix" vodka. It is just smoother. But Gray Goose will do, in a pinch.

the 90 la chapelle was, sadly, not transcendent. but it was damn good... and the lamb was pretty awesome too. and i told everyone about how I thought wine dorks were bad until i started posting on vintage bike boards. and they all reminded me that wine dorks are, in fact, bad. but i did raise a toast to the paramount and people who care about their passions more than almost anything else. you too, dbakl. pics of the paramount will be posted posthaste in the manana.

Actually in CA two bucks gets a decent bottle at trader joe's. Decent enough that I'd have a hard time differentiating it from a $20 or even $200 bottle. But I'm no wine buff, I usually stick to beer.

Back in high school all we could afford was boone's strawberry hill which was also two bucks.. now that stuff was horrible. But that was way before two buck chuck at joe's.

For reasons too numerous to entail I will be marking 19 years of sobriety in a couple of weeks but Mrs. Skidoo does love her red wines with a passion so a couple of years ago an old friend who lives in Eastern Washington was back in Nebraska to visit his mother and as they were pounding them down at dinner one evening he started raving about the big reds of the Columbia Valley so I had him turn his sommelier (the wine manager at the local supermarket in Yakima) loose with the task of selecting a case as a Christmas gift--nothing but reds and a budget of $200 shipped--and she's still talking about how it was the best present she ever got for Christmas.
