I said the same thing, then i got a pair and i don't regret it one bit. there solid, don't rip, slip or de-laminate. I've ridden them through the rain numerous times and there still holdin strong.

Seriously don't waste your money on these, its a total waste of money. It's kind of foolish to buy something like this just for a bike, in which you will find no positive benefit from. Trust me you will ride just as fine as a single strap. I have a pair Christophe leather straps that I bought from the lbs for $20 bucks, no slippage, even in the rain and I do ride brakeless so I am really putting force on them.

I think they are definitely worth the money. NJSframes's blog will have them every once in a while for a good price.

I really like how those DIY's look.
I own a pair of Toshi double straps and its definitely one of the better investments for my bike. Like everyone said, no slippage, de laminating, or ripping. If you can afford a pair go for it!

I'm sorry, but a nylon strap and a laminated leather strap held together by an admittedly nice piece of leather is NOT the same as a pair of Toshi doubles. There are differences in construction that simply cannot be matched by even the nicest DIY of manufactured strap-doubler.
If you're curious as to what differences I'm referring to, I am speaking specifically of the suede-nylon-suede composite construction of the straps themselves, and the quality of the buckles. You can have the highest quality straps but with crappy buckles they will slip. Conversely, you can have the best buckles but laminated leather straps will de-laminate, and nylon straps will tear.

I had some Christophes for about 7 months when I was about to roll through a stop sign. I saw a cop coming from the left so I locked up my wheel to stop at the sign. One of the straps exploded, threw me off balance and into the curb/sidewalk. They were great up until that moment though.
