Pushed and past 40 - grossly overweight, ankle past it from too much football when injured, and am looking to buy my first bike for many years. Am been aimed towards Felt Z100, Tifosi CK3 but to be honest things have changed a lot since my last road bike and I have little idea, this will purely be a means for keep fit initially, any advice out there with what would be the best to purchase?? 6'4" inside leg 34" so understand XL, 58cm frame best (money IS an object, ard £600 i would hope would get me started :) any help appreciated.

Rob,
One newbie to another, it is great that you are going to ride. Here are my thoughts as I am 51 and could lose 20 lbs myself which will happen in the next few months.
1) Go to your Doctor for a general, EKG and nuclear stress test. This will give you the confidence to push yourself a little without the fear of having a widow maker. The stress test will tell them if your heart muscle is getting good circulation during exercise.
2) Start out with small/ short rides. It will get your rump used to and settled in the saddle. Start to get a little wind back.
3) Don't be afraid to look at some of the performance hybrids. You can always more towards a road bike once you get your wind back, loose some weight and want to do some distance.
Start out slow and work your way up.
Good luck
