Would this be a good warmup for the HooDoo? Thinking hard about that one...

Yes! It would be a great warm-up for the Hoodoo! But better yet, is the new Hoodoo 500 4-Day Training Camp in June. Ride the entire Hoodoo route as a preview!

Doing Ride the Rockies instead, which is too close to the training camp. So many rides, so little time!

Price seems high to me for a self-supported event. I have only done charity century rides so what do I know.

It includes a tee-shirt, jersey, banquet that includes your crew person, rest stops and drop-bag service -- sounds kinda like a bargain to me!

I would like to try this race. I ride about 100 miles per week and I have done 4 century rides in the last 2 years. I there any way I could finish this ride within the time limits by just just going a little slower than my normal pace and paying attention to nutrition? Or do I need to log bigger miles in order to finish without my legs and back quitting on me?

Not to dash your hopes and dreams, but this race is twice as long as your weekly mileage, with a solo limit of 12 hours to qualify for the finisher's jersey.
How fast did you finish any of those century rides, and how much climbing was there? If you finished in under 6 hours and it was 5000+ climbing, do you think you could have done another one just like it?
My suggestion before you set your sights on a 200mi race is to get a few organized double century rides under your belt first. Build up your mileage and learn your limits on a long ride before you try and get competitive at that distance. Join your local randonneuring club and build your way up to a 400k, then think about racing.

Thanks for the reality check. As Paul Sherwin might say: "It was a case of youthful exuberance".

Maybe solo would unrealistic, but a 2-person team is definitely do-able!

Planet Ultra is extending the discounted entry for one week; by mail-in forms only.
Also, just an FYI that the route will be posted online by the end of the week.
