Recently started using a cree flashlight as my main headlight, and it's vastly superiour to the planetbike led headlights I'd been using.

An idea occurs to me though:

The flashlight has a main bright spot at center, and a larger falloff light cone.
I aim the bright spot about 30feet down the road so I can see things coming, and the falloff light spreads out to illuminate the ground in front of me and to the sides a bit.
So as it is, this flashlight is aimed near horizontal; but... this means that about Half of the light from the falloff cone is actually going skywards, where it is useless to me. -I noticed this when the tall trees to roadside were nice and bright...
So the idea is, why not mount a flat mirror above the flashlight, parralel to the main beam so it doesnt affect that; but captures the top half of the falloff light cone and reflects it back down at the ground?
Potentially doubling the brightness of the ground immediatly in front and to the sides.

Is the idea sound?
Seems like it might be worth doing, and easy to pull off since its only a small flat mirror I'll need; something the size of a make-up mirror maybe?

Make sure you report back after experimenting :)

And make sure you can't end up with bits of mirror stuck in you in the event of a spill.

Sounds interesting. Like having a proper optical lens :D

Have a look over here... http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/

This place is ALL about lights, and they would probably be abe to help you out. You might even find someone willing to do a proper mod (if you are willing to part with some cash or offer something in exchange).

All in all there a bloody nice mob over there.
