Northern California - Weekend Activities - 3/7 to 3/8

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hot diggity dog ... I just swapped on-call schedules, so it looks like I can ride this weekend after all ... woohoo. However, it looks like a racing weekend. With Berkeley TTT on Saturday, and Menlo Park Grand Prix on Sunday, looks like there is nothing local on the schedule. There is a ride inland ... waaay inland, so that's a drive for me, so I'll put that in the backburners.
Any other activity I am missing? Is it time for another Mellow Ride, or should I go for killing my legs?

I'm probably gonna try and get in some off-road unicycling with my brother this weekend (and capture video of it all ;) ). After doing centuries the last two weekends this will be a nice change.

Hoping to go for a mellow ride Saturday :D (traveling Sunday). I've been sick, traveling, or it's been pouring rain since I moved, so I haven't gotten in a ride at the new place yet. :(

Sorry to hear that. I was just thinking, while on my ride on Saturday, that it's been a long time since riding with you. Perhaps Pete will be well enough to join on a Mellow Ride as well.
Gee, mellow ride, enjoying the ride ... what a concept. :thumb:

LOL... you make it sound like us masochists don't enjoy the ride. We do, just in a more sick/twisted way.
Just kidding around... actually I like mellowing out on the flat sections to shoot the breeze and enjoy the scenery. But something about hills (up or down) and that concept disappears :innocent:

There's the 2nd B&B ride on Sunday morning that BigBossMan is hosting starting in Danville. It's not gladiator material, but it's 30 miles + Amici's pizza :thumb: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=514762

How about an East Bay hills ride after watching Marco / Ruth blast through the TT?
Hills, or flats, it's not my neighborhood so we'd need someone more experienced to host...

Yeah, we should definitely do an east bay hills ride after the TT!
I don't know the area extremely well either. Anyone have any ideas?

This weekend is one big conflict! Sunday will be my first roundy round race in Menlo Park and Saturday I think I'm marshaling a running race?
After being sick and a bad in grown Toe nail (from toe straps) I don't fee fit enough for anything, but it will be fun even if I only make one lap around the course!
I think I hate missing Bossman's/BikeShearer's pizza ride the most : (

Hey Ron, How about riding up to the Tri-flow and root for the BF'rs? Sunday
I am hoping to get in a ride with some friends. If that falls through, I would love to join the East Bay hills ride. We could even do Beaker's Diablo climb (from Orinda BART, which is right by the TTT finish). About 60 miles RT and plenty of climbing, but a great ride.

Here are some of the routes from the other two East Bay hills BF rides (both starting from Orinda) led by Georges and Beaker:

I don't know about this,. The ride all the way back into SJ yesterday, I was thinking, "when is this guy going to slow down?!?"
Anyway, I'll probably be in Tahoe next weekend, so no ride for me.

ooh, an East Bay Hills ride? Hmmm, I'll need to check with my social secretary first. I've been thinking about some alternative routes to the last couple as well - perhaps including Claremont and Shepherd Canyon next time round, we could have a pitstop in Montclair this time round.
When would the TTT wrap up?

So - 1pm-ish start for you/Ruth, Ron and mellum? If I can confirm my availability I'll post a bikely w/a new thread. I'm thinking you guys'll be up for some nice climbing, some nice views and a place to refuel? Say 40-50miles or so??
Gotta go get some work done now :( --- I'll check back tomorrow.
Edit: plan to start from Orinda BART close to the TTT loop (as always...)

Damn! An East Ride next to my door and I won't be there. No biking the following weekend either.
Next weekend I am a 'support adult' at my son's confirmation retreat (Marin headlands at Rodeo Beach) and the following weekend we will be snow camping in North Tahoe with the boy scout troop.

If you have a few hours Sunday morning, Lorri need volunteers for 3 hours (8:30 - 11:30) for course marshalls at the Menlo Park Grand Prix. The race atmosphere is great so come on out.
Reply to Lorri's email if you can help out.
Hey all! Thanks to the 60+ women and men who have already volunteered for Sunday's race. In four years, this has been the easiest to find volunteers.
We still need four course marshalls from 8:30am -- 11:30am. Course marshalling is a simple, but important job and can be lots of fun! The course marshalls are assigned to various locations around the course and the parking/registratio n area, and make sure that the course is safe for the racers. All course marshalls get a complimentary race t-shirt. And they get to wave a cool orange safety flag. We'll even give you a nice pink chair to park yourself in.
So, what say you? Would you like to get up close & personal with the race action?
Shoot me an email if you'd like to volunteer!
Lorri
ps -- while it's changing by the hour, the current forecast for Sunday is partly sunny!!!

Bump...any takers for Sat afternoon guys?
I'm thinking about a route like this - 37miles, 5000ft climbing, could be lengthed/shortened easily. If after the TTT doesn't work out, I'll likely do this another time.

I think I'm going to pass on the Berkeley ride ... starts too late in the day. I'll probably do the impromptu WW ride that leaves from Gunn High School in Palo Alto at 9 am, which goes out to Pescadero. Haven't done a ride with those folks in a long time.
