Foo - My Ding-A-Ling

I watched the movie "Cadillac Records (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm724601344/tt1042877)" yesterday. After the movie, I got curious and went to research those musicians. I didn't knew that Chuck Berry was the guy who wrote Johnny B. Goode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYBGx8uKQLA)", one of my favorite songs in the whole world. I'm not from that era, I listened to that song for the first time while watching back to the future and I loved it.

I kept researching and watching clips when I came across Chuck Berry's My Ding-A-Ling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MLBfwblps8). Now I can't get the song out of my mind and I've found myself singing it out loud in public. Young folks look at me weird, older folks laugh...

That's actually a paradox of the time-continium.

I've seen Chuck Berry sing Johnny B. Goode live on TV. I was probably in my teens and thought he was hold then (in his 50s). Now he's in his 80s and I think he still plays now and again.

EDIT: Heh.... I just remembered that Johnny B. Goode used to be kind of my theme song. My first name is Paul, and when John Paul I became the pope I was working as a dishwasher. I picked up the nickname John-Paul, and once, during a very busy Friday night, I was swamped with dishes and Johnny B. Goode came on the radio. The cook noticed that my pace picked up and started singing along with the radio "Go, Johnny, go!" Whenever I worked with that cook on a busy night after that, he called the rock station and requested that song. It was funny hearing Chuck Berry in between Ted Nugent and Led Zeppelin, but they would play it!

yes. The short censored version on AM (I think the unedited version had like 45 verses......Chuck is great but there's a limit)

I think the 1972 renaissance was probably due to the extended, in-concert, infinitely more suggestive version of the tune that appeared on The London Chuck Berry Sessions, a mostly live album recorded & released in '72. My uncle turned me on to that album when it came out. I loved that tune, and wanted to get it (as well as a bunch more Berry) for my record collection, so I bought Chuck Berry's Golden Decade, a compilation of his original hit studio recordings.

The original version of "My Ding-a-ling" is really tame compared to the live version. I was so disappointed.

Yes, Bob - that is the long version I remember. there was a short version of that same recording with the less innocent verses and some mild political commentary deleted (telling the kids in the audience they were future Parliament members who'd get in there and change some things...could Tony Blair have been out there singing along?)

btw I feel really old seeing someone first heard Johnny B Goode in back to the future:o
