Fifty Plus (50+) - N + 1/2

O.K. so with so many folks reporting about their new bikes I just had to go shopping for one for myself. I guess I just got all caught up in the excitement and rushed right out and spent as much as I could spare, unfortunately I only had enough resources to buy 1/2 of a bike.

OR

With the economy being so bad and the probability that I'll get layed off, I expect to have a lot of free time this season so I purchased this project while I was still financially solvent. It looks like I'll have a big learning curve ahead of me. Wish me luck.

All joking aside, with the girls all out of the house those things that seemed like frivolous dreams in the past don't seem so frivolous anymore. I've wanted one of these all my life. Today the wife and I went out and bought this one for me. I may never be able to master the skills needed to ride it, but at least I'll know that I tried. When paying for it the clerk asked if I needed a helmet? My bride chirped up with "I think it's a little late for one now." Funny girl!!

While I would have loved to, both space and budget said no to a new bike. So I recently compromised with building a new set of wheels in a slightly larger size (650B) and converting my Heckler to a Beckler...

Keep saying I'll try a unicycle, never get there...

Funnily enough- My LBS had a unicycle in prime position in the display last saturday. It got a look from me but that was all.

I had one of those when I was about 10. It was a lot of fun. I got pretty good, but could never get up without something to hold onto.

I'm trying to remember, but I don't think I ever fell all the way to the ground. That is, when I started to fall, I'd simply get off and land on my feet. If you're 10 years old, that's how it works, anyway.

Mine had a big wheel and, believe it or not, a Brooks-type leather saddle.

I remember that I rode it on stage in school play.

In college, I remember a guy who used to ride from class to class on one. However, I found it very tiring -- no coasting, of course.

I'm not prone to naming my bikes, only two have had names over the past 40 years, but I'm starting to think of this one as "Shorty".

So far mine has been a recumbent. :eek: I'll be thrilled when it becomes an upright!!

Good luck and all that...I got one and thought I was doing OK, then fell backwards on my head....dizzy and all that. Have not been on it since. my thoughts are to make a 'penny farthing' and maaybe, just maybe work into balancing it with the added wheel. M A Y B E...............
