yesterday, I was riding along, and I noticed something odd on the shoulder. it wasn't something I'd ever seen in a spot like that...it was a banana. It looked perfectly ripe, and unopened. it boggled my mind!
I did not see it soon enough, if I had, I probably would have picked it up...
The question is, if it had indeed been unopened and fresh, would you eat it?
No. But mainly because I don't like bananas and if the ride is long enough I'll take something to eat with me! I'm not against picking up food per se though. In college I routinely used to throw the remains of a burrito in the trash after eating half of it in a drunken stupor. First thing next morning, starving, I'd retrieve it and happily scarf it down. For some reason my room-mates seemd to find this behaviour odd.

If it's good, why let it go to waste? If anything I would give it to my wife for banana bread!!
I hate bananas. Now if it had been a fresh squirrel....

Sorry. I like to know where my food comes from. Bananas could be used for other.......recreational purposes besides food. Or do I just have a sick mind?

Hmmm... that reminds me...
You're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It should flow out, like this: "Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long.

I absolutely love bananas. I can't keep enough in the house. I eat at least three per day, along with at least one grapefruit.
Years ago, I might have picked up that banana and eaten it, but not anymore. Who knows what some sick ba$tard may have injected into it.
I would have picked it up and desposed of it properly lest some small child pick it up.
c'mon people... bananas are good.... but bananas found laying on the street is...... I would not touch it... If I were a chimp I would.. thank god I'm not. :D

Not eating food found on the street is what seperates us from bums.

My bum is very much attached to my body.... thanks. :p
If that is the only difference between us and 'bums' We- you- have a lot to work on.
Attitude towards other humans of less economic fortune would be a start.

Ants eat from the street, bums use the trashcans behind McDonalds. :)

Some 14 yr old gets a hypo and laces the banana with whatever just to see what happens, and places it on the street.
No thanks.

If i'd bonked miles from home and hadn't any food or money on me then i'd seriously consider consuming the banana for oh..about two secs then scoff the bleedin' thing !

Let the birds have it. I'd be concerned about the recreational purposes mentioned above.

i would have stopped and put a 'free banana' sign next to it, and waited in the bushes to see what the next rider does.
dog may have peed on it... stupid dogs.

if I was bonked, I would eat it...otherwise, I would leave it for some other rider that might bonk. I'm sure there are some people using bananas for recreational uses, but I would hope that they would dispose of the banana in some appropriate manner and not leave where someone would just pick it up. Or am I just too idealistic? Or would there be all these bananas laying around all over?

I work with 12, 13 and 14 year olds.
They do crazy, dumb, unreasoned, unexplainable kinds of things.
