Hello, I am planning on leaving eugene in mid march and riding down to Arcata with my girlfriend to visit her family. We are planning to get to the coast via smith river road and meet 101 at Reedsport. Any suggestions? This is the first tour for both of us and I am trying to just cover the bases. Good places to stay? Park recommendations? Pacific coast bike route advice? I have heard and read that it is more difficult to follow going south. And yes, we will be prepared for rain.

Thanks for any help
Jonathan

It's a beautiful ride, you'll enjoy it.

Get a copy of the book "Bicycling the Pacific Coast" it shows the route, especially where the side roads get you off 101. They also recommend camping spots and other thing of interest.

They may have a used copy a Smith Family Bookstore.

You may know this, but there are no services between Crow and Reedsport, take everything with you if you are camping in between.

Have fun, take rain gear.
