Northern California - Diablo Century

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Don't know enough about this ride to endorse it.
I'd probably do it if I weren't doing WCC the next weekend.
$45.

Put on by the Jewish Community Center of WC off Tice Valley (they also do basketball league, AIDS ride, etc so not event organizer newbs).
"First Annual", we'll see...
A little odd in that none of the options apparently actually INCLUDE riding ON Mount Diablo (OK, I guess Morgan Territory kinda counts).
Route Description
100-K route (62 miles):
The 100K-route takes you out to the spectacular backside of Mt. Diablo via Clayton and the Morgan Territory. Spectacular views await you as you climb to one of the peaks of the hills of the Tri-Valley. Descend into Livermore and return via Danville and scenic Blackhawk.
100-M route:
Our 100-mile route follows the 100-K route but finishes with a jaunt to Castro Valley, followed by a climb up Redwood Road to Moraga and then back to the JCC.

Yes, too bad they it's a late notice. I am also on the WCC ride so I will pass on this one. I will surely consider it next year, it offers a nice route.

I'm putting it in the maybe column. It seems almost wrong not to do the closest century to where I live. Then again, maybe that's a reason not to do it.
The logo isn't bad. It's a lot better than many I see.
I'm almost to the point of picking rides based on jerseys and tee shirts, but not quite...

I agree. The logo is pretty cool. I'll be doing the Grizzly Peak Century the next weekend, so this is a no-go for me. Looks like a fun route, though.

Wait, I'm doing the WWC too. It's a week later.
It would be possible to do both, you know.

It is, however, the same day as the Chico Wildflower Century, which I've done the past two years.
It would save on gas and a hotel room....

Choosing organized centuries based on the jersey instead of the food? Blasphemy!

My birthday is in between the two. It's possible my wife might want me around.

Ha! It's a very likely for me. Grew up there, seems like I should ride it. Yes, odd it doesn't go up Mr. Diablo... :)
From the thread title, I pictured a century that just went back and forth over Diablo five or six times. Reality is a little more sane. :P

Maybe this should be called Devil Mountain Century

It would be awesome if it did go over at least once through the ranger station. :thumb: But yeah, if it was a century like that, I can think of a few here that would jump on it...:innocent:

when's you're birthday?
Mines the 20th...I'm gonna sign up for the Diablo, that will give me 4 centurys leading up to the Davis.

28th... I'm turning 50! STP in one day will be my big FU to old age (assuming I survive).
There used to be a century called Tour Diablo Valley that started at North Gate High and went to Junction, down SGR and through Livermore... put on by Diablo Cyclists, last run in 1997. Not sure why they stopped but my guess is legal/permit issues. The route sheet is on my blog.

Meh.
If I was not doing the Primavera the week before maybe I would hit this. Geez, it is right in my back yard. But that is part of the problem. A century on the same old roads I ride day in day out is kind of like eating my vegetables.

Yeah, but how often do you go over Morgan Territory? I'm thinking about this one.... at least for the metric. I think you're right, though, doing another 100 miles on the same old roads would be kind of bland.
I guess we're spoiled. :)

That's one of the weekends I don't have the kids - might have to do this.

Another reason to do it is that if it doesn't get local support, it probably won't survive.
Having more centuries to choose from is a good thing. Local centuries are a good things. Long-running centuries are good things. I might be able to crank out the 100km ride in not much longer than my regular weekend ride window anyway.
I wonder if they're going to get everyone from Tice Valley to Clayton.

Unfortunately I didn't file the trademark before it became fair public use.

Not if it doesn't include Devil Mountain. :p
I'll be as far away from this place as possible... still recovering from my ride on 4/18.

I'm in, with MyLilPony. What the heck. Local, good cause. As Tricia pointed out, we use their restroom, so we really need to support them.
I too wonder how they're going to get folks down Clayton Rd. That narrow, driver crazed road is the main reason I don't to Morgan T often.

The Devil's Elbow and Devil's Thumb are legitimate, documented names for certain parts of The Mountain...
This century could be called "The Devil's Backside".

I am in.
Since I missed out on the Primavera last weekend, scheduling conflict, I decided not to miss out on a Century that starts just 8 miles from my front door. I am paid and committed.
