Now I need to spend the next 2.5 hours studying. I'm exhausted and having difficulty concentrating for that and other reasons. :innocent:

gen chem. It's not that difficult, it's just that my brain is currently having difficulty with math.

I had trouble staying awake in class back when I was in college. I'm better now, but I still have a bit of a tendency to fall asleep in a lecture. As for UA, get to studying!

my head actually hit the desk once. I was working 60 hrs/wk, carrying 12 credits and doing FT student teaching to graduate early. I had a 30 mile drive each way to school (closer to 40 with the job added in). I remember many commutes like in the Simpsons episode where Homer falls asleep at the wheel as he works at the Kwiki Mart to get Lisa a pony. Not sure How I didn't crash......

I fell asleep constantly in college...especially the first year at the State school I went to. 50 min commute to the campus every morning at 0600.. Sometimes I wouldn’t even make it to class... I would fall asleep in my car in the parking lot... I remember one Geology class I took and I fell asleep every day.. I tried VERY hard to stay awake for the review for the final,,but fell asleep in that too :) I still have no idea how I got a B in that class.... My GPA dropped from a 3.8 in HS to a 2.8 that first year...then rebounded to above 3.5 when I transferred to a small school in San Diego. Class size went from 300 to less than 30… that was a godsend.

Lucky for you I'm good at both chemistry and math. Send along the questions and I'll help you out.

Take something with you to eat or drink. Drinking water will help keep you awake...especially if you drink most of it early on and then need to leave class quickly after. :D

the worst is when you coffee binge for too long (as in all semester) and build up a tolerance - so eventually it backfires by not working anymore - so now you're still sleepy, but also cranky and irritable from the caffeine and you have to pee, all at the same time - whee!!!

An Oatmeal stout takes care of both...:innocent:

Well, wet pants will keep him awake for the remainder of the class.

Hmm...perhaps the ridicule isn't such a good avenue to take. Jelly Belly Sport Beans with caffeine, then.

Awesome! A new math/science tutor for Foo. :D As I'm so swamped at work, it's nice that someone else can help UA out.

I hate feeling tired in class. I'll be ready to pass out in one class. Then when I have a break where I can go sleep, I'll be wide awake.

In one of my classes this quarter the lighting is low in the room, the time is right after lunch, professor has a soothing voice, and it is a 200+ person lecture. Prime zzzzzzzz time. Even if I absolutely love the subject, I can't keep awake.

I remember taking A&P - the lecture prof. was amazing - he made it interesting and I loved his classes. The guy who taught the labs however could have bottled and sold his voice as a cure for insomnia. I used to bring an old school cassette recorder to tape his classes because I'd drift off while there....but no good - when I'd listen to the playback later, he'd still put me to sleep!

A couple of guys regularly fell asleep in one of my classes last semester. The professor was incredibly intelligent and had worked as a contracts lawyer in Europe, but . . . he was as blind as a bat. Needless to say, people took advantage.

One guy would fall asleep in the most obvious ways. His head would tilt back, and then he would jerk awake. Then he would go back to sleep. I sometimes watched as he went through this process, because his eyes would start to sag really badly and you knew he was out.

Another guy fell asleep with his hand on the "n" key of his keyboard. He typed nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn for around fifteen pages in Word before someone woke him up. Someone also threw a paper clip at him.

Falling asleep in class is bad.

Oh yeah, that'd be me right now... :twitchy:

(I've had a headache for a month now... I went in to the campus health clinic thinking I must be dying of brain cancer only to be told I have the granddaddy of all tension headaches and for God's sake to go get some meds and a massage as soon as possible. I told them all I really need is for the ice to melt off the pathways so I can ride my damn bike!)

One of my old classes at night (I ALWAYS went into my night classes with the BIGGEST JUMBO cup of coffee I could - and even still as soon as I sat down - I relaxed and fought for the next hour to stay awake by doodling, fidgeting etc - till something kicked in and I was alert again) - there was a guy who was always 10 minutes late - zoomed in and sat down. Opened his book. And started to doze off ... first his head lolled forward so his chin touched his chest (by now about 10 of us were concentrating on him versus the professor) and then something half woke him up so he would snap too - and then the head would loll backwards --- which is when he started to snore.

Happened every class.

I fell asleep at work leaning backwards in my chair waiting for IE7 to install. It wasn't evident until I started snoring.
