I am in, for the 3rd straight year. I am a huge fan of this ride. Better organized than the HHH, and chip timed which is great - hands down, it deserves to be more popular than the HHH. :thumb:

And that opinion has NOTHING to do with my not getting into the HHH this year ... :notamused:

EDIT: doing the Quadrupedal as well, first time.

I'm sorry that I'll miss this ride (moving to the East Coast). I've done it all three years and I really like it.

You can get your hill kicks in the western berkshires (about 2 hours from Boston) and do the Mt. Greylock hill climb. Western MA and the NY Adirondacks are absolutely great places to bike and the hills are so much different. That's where I got my "legs" after returning to biking. They actually have mountain passes. A field trip with Mrs. JB to the Ashiwillitock Rail Trail near Pittsfield will be quite pleasant.

Thanks for the tips! I've spent some time in Mass (prior to road biking days) and do recall a lot of great terrain. There's also an outside chance I end up in Berkeley... if they decide to admit me (great riding out there, too.... and year-round!)

Don't know if you guys want to share a place, but there are some cool options in Mineral Point if you book ahead. If you don't you'll end up at the Pine Cone Motor Inn again.

Well Smokin good question?? 200k for sure. 300k or 200miles would be fun.

The day after Sunday our team may enter a race of 90 miles (Race the Lake) which I was asked to do.
So I want a little bit left in the tank for Sunday. CyLowe97, Psimet2001, aham23, cyclpsycho, or nietmas may want some body to ride with so the 200k maybe all I should handle.

I've actually never stayed there, but it looks dicey from the outside. The "SORRY" picture makes me laugh every time. My wife. Michelle, does location scouting in the area for photo shoots and lodging for out-of-towners. There are a number of places where you get an entire house that you might be able to split four or five ways. You'd end up with some social interaction, a nice place and you might even save money.

Um...I was inside one of those rooms....briefly....long enough to breath in the smokey stench and view the curiously short beds. "Sorry" really does sum it up. Let's just say one person offered me $50 to stay over at the Comfort Inn on my FLOOR after viewing their accomodations at Pine Cone or whatever it was! I'm tackling the 300k if I can get my sorry arse in shape.

Stu, I'm not sure this group needs more social interaction. If we get anymore social, we may be up all night and not even need rooms!

We should consult Dave on what the conditions are when finishing later. I am truly not at ALL certain I can finish the 300k. Last year I was thinking that I probably could have done it physically but possibly not made the time limit.

Also, the 300k makes a second night in a hotel....course I know you'll be at the Dells still probably.

I'd like to do it.....just to suffer as much as possible in my lifetime!

You would have no problem with the 55 mile route. It is very similar in many ways to what we ride at Cylowe's event last spring. I think you'd really like it. I love the Dare.

Well where do I start:

The conditions at the Pine Cone Hotel were not so good but it was probably my fault. I registered 3 weeks before the DD for a single room. NO SMOKING ROOM. Then some BF members thought they need a place to stay so since I was a single I would change my room for a double. Well it was Thursday before the DD and all they had were double smoking rooms left so I took it. Yes it was smelly. Ask Cyclpsycho.
Psimet2001 and aham23 stayed at the same hotel and their room was a night and day difference as being a non smoking room.

Now for the 300k. I had a good start. I was with a group of about 12 or so. Most of them did this ride before. It was almost race conditions. The first rest stop all we did was go over the mat and left. No stopping. I think we averaged over 19 miles per hour. We got to the second rest stop and I did a nature stop (had to pee) got something to eat and the 12 or so riders were gone. So I rode the rest of DD alone. The hills were not all that bad but they still were hard. The hardest stretch was from Clyde to Highland and second hardest stretch was from Harris Park to Harris Park the last 33k to get to 300k. That was hard because you were already back to Harris Park but had to go out again.

I got done around ten to eight or so. I was beat. The food was good but I wasn't hungry so I didn't eat much. I didn't know any body else there and I didn't have any beer. I made the trip back home (1hr 45min) and that was some hard driving. So it might be a good idea to stay overnight.

So if you want to do the 300k make sure you get a good start.

likely no 300k for me. we normally car pool and i cant see asking the others wait around that long. plus, i rode at least half of the 200k solo and i cant imagine how dave342 got through those solo miles of the
300k. plus, last years 200k was every bit enough of a challange for me! now, i just need to do it faster, the 200k that is. later.

Faster is just not always better :D You know I'd wait on you and give you a ride back. ;) You could even drink beer in my car and keep me awake to drive back home Saturday night. As for being alone, I figure you and ColorChange will go out way too fast :innocent: and then I'll catch you at some rest area about 1/2 way through and we could all ride together. In the end we will be talking to ColorChange and using mental imagery to get him in....just imagine you're on your coffee table......ha ha

Dave is awesomely tough. That's why he may be the only one of us with a 300k finish....in spite of his accomodations.

Are you asking about the 55 mile route on the QuadruPedal? If so, it's one of my favorite rides and was the core route for the event. It's hilly to be sure, but so beautiful that if if you just take your time and enjoy the scenery and rest stops you might even forget about the hills.
