Folding Bikes - Improved Metro-North folding bike policy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For those of you in the New York area, Metro North has improved its folding bike policy. I believe it used to require that bikes be bagged. Now however they're allowed at all times, just so long as they don't block aisles or doors:

It looks like the MTA is giving some attention to bicycles and trying to standardize rules. I certainly love that short URL.
Fantastic news. Just in time for summer bikexploration time.

That's a pretty nice site. I'm tempted to pick up a joint lifetime Metronorth/LIRR permit. It's only $5, and I'm considering a tour out on the island of lungs this spring. I'm a little surprised I wasn't asked to present a permit the last time I used metronorth with a bike.

I like MetroNorth. It's fast and I'm going to be exploring more this summer. Yale university and that entire neighborhood is just beautiful.
Great news! Thanks for posting it! :thumb:

Nice to hear you like New Haven. It's worth a ride to either the West Haven beaches (3 miles from the station) or East Haven-- a bit further. Great public beach/park. Eat at Stowe's in West Haven on the beach. Classic New England seafood shack.

I'm stoked to hear this news. I just gave up the car, and have completed my first week of Metro North commuting. After a week of 14F half hour hikes from the train to work, I'm ready for a folder already!
Also, trying to pick my two and four year old boys up from daycare one stop early and getting them and my 61cm road bike onto a bus was tricky. A folder would make this a great deal easier.
So I think I'm getting a Curve this weekend-- perfect timing, Metro North. Thanks!
(and yes, I do think I fit well enough on a curve, at least to do three miles in the morning.)

Given the global economy it's probably one of the safest $5 investments currently available ;)
You don't need it with a folder, but I have one anyway so I only have to fold when it gets crowded.
