General Cycling Discussion - Bike Stolen - need advice on new one

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My Cannondale M400 mountain bike was stolen yesterday and I need to replace it. It was oversized slightly to act as a hybrid and had slicks on it.
Most of my riding is around Toronto streets and park bike paths.
I probably ride around 100 KM a week in the summer.
I really loved the nimble, light feeling of the Cannondale frame, even though my components weren't that great.
I will NOT do much off-road biking, if at all.
Any recommendations for a replacement? Should I get a MTB or hybrid? Do I need any sort of shocks? Any brands recommended.
Thanks for any help, in advance.
Look into a Cyclocross bike. Surly, Lemond, there's a bunch of good ones. Great for the road and the occasional trail. You can fix them up to be more hardcore in either direction.

You did not say what your budget is for the new bike. There are so many good choices it's hard to say without knowing. If you are not riding off-road very much I wouldn't recommend another mountain bike. Good luck.

I'm ready to spend about $1,000 CDN or $750 U.S.
