More people should ride bicycles. Bicycles are the most efficient device ever invented. A bicycle can take a person four or five further in a day than that person could walk, yet it has no engine and uses the same leg muscles used for walking. Worldwide, twenty five percent of people have a bicycle, ten percent have an automobile. Most people walk. In the United States, ninety nine percent of cyclists have a car.
Myself, I have a car and a half dozen bicycles. I also have a pilots license, and I would advise anyone interested in travelling faster than fifty five miles per hour to take a plane.
The League of American Bicyclists has been asking for bicycle lanes on all roads since 1934. It's about time for this vital link of bikeway to be built. It would've been cheaper to build seventy five years ago! Too bad for the delay. Perhaps with President Obama's new infrastructure plan, the jobless will be put to work widening and straightening our nations roads, like Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration did in the 1930's. But this time, make every place bicycle accessable.

I've bicycled over 140,000 miles since 1972. I've never been hit by a car, or broken any bones. The dangers of bicycling are overestimated, and most injuries are from doing stunts, like jumping the bike airborne on purpose.
Most bicycle fatalities are the result of the bike being hit by a car, and that is the prime reason bike paths need to be built. The nine million dollars is not for the bicyclists, it is for the motorists who can't control their cars.
