Hey folks, I thought this would be the best forum to share my problem, but let me know if there's a better one.
My custom bike has finally been finished, and I am super excited. The frame builder was great about setting up the bike just the way I wanted. Yesterday I got the final bill, and it was a few hundred dollars more than I expected. He said that assembly was included in the final cost. Even so, I significantly downgraded the wheelset from the original quote, and am providing my own saddle. So unless assembly costs $2-300, I think I'm being overcharged.
I feel like since there was nothing on the website or in our communications that indicated an assembly fee, it's not right to charge one. On the website of the builder there is simply an option to "Buy a Complete Bike," with component packages priced out.
Was I a fool to think that the quote given would be actual cost? Is the assembly cost something I should have expected? Am I a jerk for making a big deal out of this? What should I do? Thanks!
