Road Cycling - How Do You Measure Seat Set-Back?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've always measured the seat set-back position from the vertical line of the center of the bottom bracket (obviously), to the tip of the saddle, but I've heard other ways: center of seat, etc
????
all my saddles have marking on the rails, just like a ruler. I believe its in mm.... I'll check later..
I think the reference is from the center.
The saddle forward-aft position is used to position your body relative to the BB/crankarm. If your replacing your saddle with a new one and wouldn't want to ruin your setup, I don't think using the tip as a reference would not be so good since saddles vary in length.
Drop a plumb line from the tip of the seat and measure the distance from it to the center of the BB.
Frame makers also measure set back instead of seat tube angle. That gets very confusing to many shops that do not know. But it is more accurate.
There you drop a plumb line from the junction of the top and seat tube and measure the distance to the bb.
If you are measuring bikes to make them the same it is just simpler to measure the tip of the seat to the center of the bars.
Taking in consideration you are using the same seat.
