I know Facebook is a social networking site. What I do not know is is it possible to only allow certain people to view a Facebook page? For example only limit it to say memebers of the same family and no one else? Can a Facebook account be set up that way? The reason I ask is my wife has a bunch of photo's of her mom and dad's family. Some of these go as far back as the 1940's. We want to create a Facebook page but only allow the family to log on to view them and the family history and no one else. Is this possible or does Facebook force you to make your entire page public and there are no other options?

I know with blogger.com you can set it up to only have certain people be able to view the blog. Blogger might work for posting the photo's and info, but I think Facebook may be a little more user friendly. Other then Facebook and Blogger does anyone have any other ideas for web sites where we allow ony certain people to access and view for this project my wife is working on?

As far as I last checked my FB, which was a while back, you can limit it to groups of people. For you, you can limit it to your "Friends" and only add/accept those you want to see your pics and stuff as "Friends".

As for your project, I think Photobucket.com (http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj71/z415/) would be a better option due to ease of upload and tagging/labeling/etc. the pics. Default is set to public, but you can set the album to private from the 'account settings' though I have never done that and am not sure how it works since pics in mine are linked here or eBay sales. I do know that if I try to set it to private, I have to enter a "guest password".... won't hurt to try, you can always delete your account if it doesn't work and it is a clean delete. From what I hear about FB, they actually don't truly delete it from their servers.

do not put up pictures that are really important to you on facebook! Sadly one thing that sucks about the site is that they own the rights to the pictures as soon as you put it up, so even if you delete them, they can still use them. I put up my pics from spain before I found this out:notamused:

I'm very sure that is not true Mac. It's more a matter of semantics really. Their TOS state they never own the content you post, but by posting the content you grant them rights to store it and use it somehow. Honestly, I don't care what they do with my content. What are they going to do with a picture of me that I feel is inappropriate?

To the OP, you can set privacy settings for 'limited profile' views. This means you can customize exactly what information you want some type of people to see on your page. Do you want them to be able to see your photos, but not your wall? Do you want them to see your wall and photos, but not your personal information such as likes and dislikes? You may customize all that. Then when you friend someone you can set that person as a 'limited view' friend.

You can always change that person later on to a full profile view person. Unfortunately I do not believe that you can set the viewing privileges on a person by person basis. That is either a good thing or a bad thing.

Also, you can set photo albums to have specific settings such that one album may be viewable by everyone while another photo album is only viewable to specific people.

My advice is to not be afraid of facebook. My parents are on it. My bosses are on it. My aunts and uncles are on it. It does reconnect everyone. Don't be afraid of it.

Seriously though, what are you afraid of them doing with your pictures from Spain? If you read the TOS, they don't ever own the rights to your content. They own the rights to use your content. So even if your a professional photographer you will still get credit for your work. You only lose out on the ability to tell them to not use your work or publish it. So if you're a pro photographer who cares about this then don't post. You still own everything.
