Mountain Biking - Favorite biking destinations, lower 48?

Hello all,

I am about to do a 30 day cross country road trip and am looking for some riding destinations.

If you could ride anywhere in the lower 48 where would you go? Myselfe and my wife will be leaving Alaska for Florida and want to ride every day of the trip. So far the grand canyon is one for sure , but we need some more idea's.

You must check out Moab, Utah.

if you are going to be in the canyon then check out flagstaff (mountain eldon) and submarine rock in sedona. also, moab, fruita, lots of place in phoenix!

California...oregon...florida (only to visit some peeps ;)) Past that not much interest. For utah has been overdone in vids and riding.

Yeah but if you haven't ridden it then it's still new to you. :) I think Utah is still a great place to ride even if it's seen its fair share of hype. One often overlooked state for mountain biking is.... western Montana.

Utah for me is just overkill. As I am sure BC is to other people. I have SEEN so much video it just looks...like dirt...as a lot of people I talk to think bc is 'just' skinnies. I just have no interest. If the trip were free I might consider it...but I like technical single track with lots of trees.

If you are going to hit the Grand Canyon, ride in Flagstaff AZ, go to Cosmic Cycles and then head to Sedona AZ and stop in the Bike & Bean. Flag and Sedona are only 2 hours away, but the ridding is worlds apart. Good luck on you trip.

I rode the Berryman Trail/Brazil Creek once on a cross-country trip. Well worth it if you're near St. Louis.

Besides all the other great places that people have mentioned, another favorite place of mine to ride is Durango, CO.

Crested Butte in Colorado was one of my favorite places to ride.

Also, the Rainbow Trail outside of Salida, CO was awesome as well.

When you get further East, hit Western North Carolina and head towards Asheville. The trails in the Pisgah Nat'l Forest and surrounding areas are top notch East Coast trails. Also, in North Georgia in Elijay and in Helen are good.

Once you get to Florida, don't think the trails disappear. There are great trails in Tallahasse, Ocala, Lakeland, Tampa, and S. FL as well.

Where in FL will be your final destination. If you're close to Sarasota (or Tampa area) let me know and I'll do my best to show you around.

Western Nort carolina, definitely Tsalia and Pisgah.Oak mountain in Birmingham,Al while going south.West Virginia has tons of great trails also

Pisgah National forest in NC (Ride black mountain.. epic) Tsali in Bryson, NC, Bull Mountain in Georgia, and in Florida ride Razorback in Reddick.

marin and santa cruz if you plan to visit the bay area

George Washington National Forest in VA/WVA has alot of good mountain biking.

I'd like to ride Mt. St. Helen's someday. If I had a chance that would be a definite ride destination....
If you come thru NC, definitely check out my neck 'o the woods (Pisgah National Forest). I ride these trail every other day, year 'round. They never get "old", that's how good they are.... I've been riding them for over 11 yrs. now too! Turkey Pen, North Mills River, Bent Creek, and the trails around DuPont & Brevard are all Killer.... Have fun!!!!

I have to agree with A2pnut. Crested Butte has some great riding. Fat tire festival is in June.
