I'm wondering if anyone here has done this. My 2.5 year old rode in the trailer yesterday and liked it but he did say that HE wanted to ride too. He's been wanting to "ride with Daddy" and I finally picked up a trailer and he was able to come and he was thrilled to finally go riding. But he realized HE is not riding.

He was in the bike shop and like a little 12" bike he saw. I'm thinking of getting him a bike like that and then hauling it with us, take a break half way and let him ride around, then when he gets tired, strap it back and go home.


Any suggestions or ideas?

A few years ago I had a trailer for my children. As they grew I started hanging their bikes on the back handlebar of the trailer with bungee cords. I would drag him with my old steel Myiata until I destroyed it while riding in the hills of NC. I then drug them with my OCR2.

I've attached the little bike on my rear rack, kid riding in the trailer, until we get to the park so he can ride. Hardest part is getting the little bike solidly on the rack without poking me up front or sliding off sideways in spite of the bungees. Not a bad idea to rig the little bike to the trailer, although I ruled it out with the Burley trailer I have since the handlebar is not very strong. Although your tike is still a bit young for it, you might be a good candidate to get a trail-a-bike in a year or so.

I used to strap the kiddie bike to the trailer with bungee cords or whatever was handy to give one of the twins a lift now and then. It worked but I did not have to do it very often.

I have done it. Just bungee corded the bikes to the jogging handlebar of the Chariot. When we got safely to the park, I'd stop and unhook the cargo. It's a bit of a hassle but you do get the best of both worlds: the kids get to ride as much as they want or are able to, and you can safely transport them through traffic if you have to.
