Great Lakes - Are the roads salt free yet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi all,
I'm eager to ride again. I've never really taken notice of when the salt clears from the road. How long does it usually take?
Thanks!
I am still waiting for the snow to melt off of them.
As far as salt if the roads are dry ride them and wash the bike after you are done.

Around here (Northern Il), the roads are still salty. But worse is all the tiny pebbles that can find their way to your tube. I usually wait to take the good bike out till there has been a substantial amount of rain to wash everything away.

Think we might get a hard rain at times this weekend. Hopefully not too much to cause lots of flooding up here. As for salty or cindered pavement, the sidewalk and curb along Larkin Ave. especailly between Ingalls and Theodore has so much black crap that will blow your tires out. That area is a dump anyway.

If you've not been riding lately be careful of the debris on the berms. The remnants of the "redneck beer bottle recycling program" are still there.

It is raining hard right now in N. Ill. Suppose to do it all day.
