Indeed.

Assuming they don't make us Cat 4/5 fools start at an ungodly hour, I should be there.

Looks like a nice course. But no flyer available with only one week of racing away? WTF?

It's pretty laid back from what I hear. It's technically a practice crit series too I believe.

I might be there. Probably not though, since I don't have a car and I will be home for spring break.

Nope, collegiate race down in Indiana. But there are two guys from WI on the Trek-Livestrong team down there.

This is my home turf. I don't have a bike currently capable of racing however.
I didn't know we would have a race this early!
Anyone wanna lend me?
I was in Phoenix last week and put in my base miles for one week. Totally ready... ?

Beautiful weather, the course had a few bumps here and there, but all in all a good test for the legs. They had cat4 and cat5 start in one group, which was good, so there were enough wheels to suck on.
Met Psi, MJH2, John W., recursive and Joel who just started racing a few weeks ago and took the win in cat5. I'm not worthy.
Was not too fast of a race so it was easy to hang on until the sprint where I was in the back of the sprinting pack :(
I took 3rd in the cat5 nonetheless, so I'm satisfied.

Lots of fun. Saw a lot of BF guys. Thanks to everyone for enduring my unending mopiness.

Big congrats to Joel who won his first race. MJH2 buried himself in a leadout for him and he had a substantial gap on the field he sat up way before the line. He won't be a 5 for long. He won't be a 4 for long. It's real fun to watch him race.

Early pix from the Cat 1/2 race are up on Peloton-Pix. Taking a short break, then grind out the rest.

I knew the smartwool sox would look sexy! Thanks for the picture. Make sure to post in here when the 4/5's are up. I know you got a few. And, besides myself, I know a certain Cat 5 who'd probably love a picture or two.

Sounds like a good time. To be clear, was it MJH2 or Joel who sat up way before the line?

MJH2, I assume you raced as a Cat4, how did it go?

Finally, this race was described as a "practice race". Is it? How was the competition, organization, etc. I'm considering making the trip next week.

It was Joel who sat up. I gassed it in the first turn. Joel stayed on my wheel down the back straight and we got a decent little gap on the field. In trying to get him to the last turn in position to win, I had a mishap and dnf'd. Joel easily took the field sprint for 4th overall, and 1st in CAT5. Not bad for a guy who started seriously riding his bike about 45 days ago.

I raced Cat 4.

Our race was mild. There were a couple of half-hearted break attempts, with one (2 man) and one (solo) getting away about 10 minutes from the end. Nobody wanted to chase. If you've been even thinking about going, I'd suggest it. The course is super wide with open turns and no substantial flaws in the surface.

Yeah. I wrecked in the last corner on the last lap. Didn't take anybody with me as I managed to flop over into a grassy median. I've got a little bit of road rash and a sharp pain in my shoulder, but I'm otherwise ok.

Go race up there. It's worth it.

Did you take the corner to wide or did you hit the bumpy section in the middle of the road about 2/3rd into the turn that made you go flying?

I flew into that corner hoping to maintain the gap, but trying to exit wide so I wouldn't slow Joel. We ran upon a lapped rider going about 16 right where I was looking to enter the turn. I went by him on the outside and never really hit the apex of the turn. My wide exit went a little too wide. I glanced over to make sure that Joel (or anybody) wasn't directly behind me and when I looked back up I was rolling right into the gutter. I brushed the curb and then put it over into the grass, sliding like superman for a few feet.

Except for the fact that I can't lift or twist my arm, it was pretty fun.

Gah... a lapped rider was riding on the raceline? :wtf: Must have been a beginner. When you're lapped stay outta the friggin raceline. I think they really need to mention that during the coming races.

He was in a bad spot, but I'm not going to put my wreck on his shoulders. There are a lot of factors that contributed but, ultimately, I was in control of the bike.

On another (and probably related) note, I set a new one minute power benchmark that happened to end at the point I ran into the curb! :thumb:

Remember kids, if you want a good shot of yourself don't hang out in the middle or in the back of the pack like me :)
In one pic I can see myself blurred because depth of field only went that far.

Send me any good pics you got, man.

That's why they need to announce it. I saw the same thing in Wood Dale last year. A kid was on the inside of the turn but not close enough to the curb so a guy started to pass on the inside as the kid was moving into the turn, they bumped and the kid shot across the other way. He was yelled at and he moved to the outside.

Greetihgs from Kenosha!

I'm sitting in my car parked right on the Superweek criterium course connected into the Kenosha Library's WiFi network.

Cooler temps today than last week but a pretty decent turnout. Recursive and RJBTrek were there 'representing' BF.

John, the photo looks great! There must be a problem with your lens...it seems to have added 10 pounds to me! Either that or my perception needs to be alterd!! Hmmm...which is it?
I was suffering big time. I sucked today. It was a cat 4/5 race and I was lapped! At least a number of the Cat 5s I know did not lap me. I was spit out the back in minute 10 of the 45min race. I struggled the rest of the race and kept going as hard as i could. After unpacking my bike at home, I did notice that my back brake was rubbing against the wheel. This could have happend when I put in the car after the race, or, it could have been that way during the race. Regardless, I was tired from the get go so it would not have mattered that much. At least I was not DFL. There was at least 1 other guy that was spit out the back early but he did not stay on my wheel when I passed him.

The first race of the year is always a reminder of how TRAINING IS NEVER LIKE RACING!!!
