Folding Bikes - I did something with my folder that I don't usually do today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I took it for a long ride. I almost always use my folders for utility rides and save the longer rides for my road bike. Weather was crappy this morning and Okinawa roads get powerfully slick when they're barely wet. Combined with that and the fact that it looked like it could downpour at any minute I opted to take my Speed P8 out for a short spin.

My short spin turned out to be a ride in excess of a couple hours. It never did anything beyond a light sprinkle, it was cool and it seemed like the wind was always at my back rather than in my face. One of those rides where you don't want to get off the bike. At first it was going to be an easy ride but I decide to tackle some big hills and I managed to crank out a pretty hard ride.

The Speed P8 and the Schwalbe Big Apples worked perfectly in the wet conditions. I'd never really hammered on that bike and it was up to the task.

Great ride and probably will use my folders for longer rides from time to time.

Hey there, I just rode 30 miles Thursday on my Speed P8. I really does handle well for longer rides. I'm 5' 8" and the frame geometry suits me very well. I am tantalized by sleeker folders with thin tires (read: Speed Pro TT) but in reality, the Speed P8 works for my commute, errands, joyrides, and for light trail duty, too!

I have a Jetstream XP which is pretty doggone sleek. I even bought some of those Dahon Schwalbe Stelvios and put on the bike only I didn't like the way they looked so I put the Marathon Racers back on.

You'd love the sleeker bikes as well. I have a Jetstream XP that is an absolute blast to ride.

But I've also got a Speed TR and I'm going to be riding it on some touring coming up here pretty soon so I probably out to ride my P8 a bit more to kind of train up for that.

Funny, I just took my folder out for some hill climbing last week because my road bike was under repair. It had been many months since I took it out. Besides the extra weight, it rode like a dream.
