Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Monkey Lights and Hokey Spokes et al

Does anybody have an experience of spoke lights or any other funky and BRIGHT ways of making a commuter bike stand out in traffic????

I am looking for something that will catch the eye = safe!!

If you have schrader valves then you can get valve caps with motion sensitive lights.

There are also options like Pedalites or Ledals (sorry for the lack of links, replying on my phone). These have a standlight feature. Or Glowspec, no standlight but you can at least get metal pedals.

Personally, for a cost effective solution you could just get some of those green or amber cheap blinkies and fit to your forks facing to the side.

I just tried SpokeLits from Nite-Ize (http://www.niteize.com/productdetail.php?category_id=31&product_id=163).

They work pretty well. They're easy to install/remove and provide a nice side lighting effect. I put a blue and a green on my front wheel. I ordered two more in the "disco" variety which cycles through colors.

If you get them, you really need 2 per wheel. Then again to get the POV effects at low speed on those LED arrays, you need 3 per wheel.

Their site says they're made of 3M Scotchlite, thats basically retrorelfective tape right?
So if I already have retroreflective tape, are these giving me anything extra over if I were to just wrap little tape flags to my spokes?

IE, are they simply pre-cut bits of tape? Sounds like it...

Get a Monkey Light (http://www.monkeylectric.com/m132s.htm) if you want the real deal. A bit expensive but super bright, eye-catching, and way cooler than any other light. The patterns look pretty good even at low speeds. Having more than one Monkey Light per wheel just gives different overlapping images. The units do not synch up with each other. I think having just one is great.
