Northern California - Tri Flow Grand Prix spectating & a birthday...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Any other BF'ers going to tomorrow's event to spectate?
On a related note, I just found out that one of our esteemed colleagues is having a bday soon and he didn't tell anyone. Hint: his name rhymes with "Twingineer" and he'll be at the event as a volunteer...
So putting two, and two, together I was wondering if anyone might be up for a "Twingineer" bday ride after the event.
In all seriousness Ron has been a big part in making me feel welcome, to the NorCal scene, since I started riding a few months ago. Me and him keep one another company as the faster riders disappear into the horizon. :thumb:
So who's interested?

As I remember last year we tried to have a Ron ride and it got rained out or something of that nature...
Ron rhymes with "Twingineer ...correct?

Nice one.
Many happy returns in advance Ron. Sorry I can't make the Tri-Flow event.

I'm up for it. It turns out I won't be course marshalling it, but would love to get a group together to spectate. What time? I figure I'd ride there from home, and get in some good mileage (something I really haven't done in over a month). Hopefully, this will also get a certain someone who hasn't been out riding, and who recently got hitched out on the ride. More riddles ...

Ms. I.
I'll be there; not sure how early though. I would like to see the cat 5 race at 9:00a but my races aren't until 2:15a and 4:05a. I'll probably show up by 10:50a to watch the women's 123 race.

Was a great day for a race. Was a little bit on the chilly side if you were spectating in the shade. I only stuck around in the morning, and left after the women's elite race, which was cool.
Saw Henry there ... he got there really early ... his race wasn't until 1:30 PM

Catched the Men's Elite 5, and the Women's 1/2/3 race. Wow, that was fun. Cheered Tim (Bottlerocket on) ...

So Henry, how'd you end-up doing? Did that sugar-coated Chex-Mix help any? ;)

I found a cafe in the office park and got to eat a chicken salad sandwich about 2 hours before my first race. I got about a 1/2 hour warm up but our race didn't start on time so it may not have made a difference anyway. After the W4 race finished we finally rolled.
I felt really good for the M35+ 3/4 race and finished strong (not sure of placing). There was a lot of braking in the turns where there was a lot of room to pedal through in a wide line, especially turn 1 and the chicane at turns 3 and 4. A few guys that couldn't/didn't hold their line very well through the turns nearly caused a crash in front of me. There was some good bike handlers that avoided going down. The race lasted 16.3 miles and averaged 25.7mph.
In between the races I ate half a Luna bar and half a bottle of Accelerade and met up with a a couple more members of Team Integrate/FFBC which I recently joined.
The E4 race got under way and straight of the bat, I could tell the pace was higher but better yet, the cornering was 100% better. We pedaled through turn 1 and mostly kept wide going through the chicane. I was able to keep mostly in the front half of the field but in the last two laps I could tell I was getting dehydrated. My saliva was starting to get tacky and I could feel a tinge of cramping in my left calf. I managed to keep at it but in the last lap on the last straight to the finish, I was already at 115 rpm and couldn't crank it any faster. I saw a lot of guys come around me even though I was already doing close to 32mph. I didn't finish as strong as the first race but it was still a good race. I just need to refuel and rehydrate better if I double up on races again. The race lasted 16.3 miles and averaged 25.9mph.
It was great to be out for the festivities and Lorri put on an excellent race. I really enjoyed meeting back up with guys and girls from previous races and meeting new people.

Thanks for coming out so early guys. It was great having you guys there cheering me on. And the pictures turned out great. Wish I could’ve hung out longer, but work was looming.
The Cat. 5 race was fun. I hung out in the pack for most of it and then got boxed in for the sprint :(. Rolled in for 13th. Lots of braking in the corners so there was a lot of wasted energy but there were no crashes. Some real close calls though. This’ll be my last race as a 5 so I was hoping for a little better placing, but oh well..........It was still a blast. Looking forward to actually racing with my teammates in the 4's.
This was my favorite course so far (I’ve only been on three), more turns than the Early Birds and more wide open straights than the San Jose Classic. I’ll be back next year.

I didn't get there till 3ish, mainly to support my fellow E4'ers. Long course. I walked it to take pictures and see the chicane and ended up missing the finish.
